The only problem with going at the council for the signage is that there are terms and conditions when using a blue badge. Unfortunately, one of those is that you use the clock thingy to indicate the time at which you parked and that you then have up to 3 hours of parking before you have to move.

I think Noz is right there ............clock SHOULD be set in a time limited zone ....I have indeed broken a parking by-law by  ,  being a Dick Head because we have parked there 100 times without setting the clock it becomes the norm   .

What rankles is that Big Brother deems it to be a £70 fine .........thats  £70 .

I'm a reasonable person ...just slap a note on the screen saying  "  In future use your time indicator...enjoy your day in Lichfield "

£70 is a rather large fine,,, however they are just a money making machine for the local authority.

They do exactly the same with people who drop fag ends,,, instead of a slap on the wrist, getting them to pick it up and then giving them one of those thermal bag things they slap you with a fine.. no argument and very little chance of an appeal...

Funny you should mention that Noz, Mrs Sharp got done only the other week. A very well worded letter from moi and a short meeting with the guv'nor and all was forgotten. :) Happy days!

Friday .  Drive to Lichfield to do shopping ...effortlessly reverse into disabled space in the market square , 1 inch bigger than car...feeling good.

Assemble mobility scooter , missus speeds off into market , I go into bank.

Walk back out   , missus has returned ,  "We've got a parking ticket , just had an argument but warden does'nt give a shytte"

Blue Badge is correctly displayed whats the problem ?       We did'nt set the silly cardboard dial they give you  at our arrival time . Never ever used the thing in 6 yrs ....but apparently it was a 3 hour only limit zone and when you park you're supposed to set the dial ,  we didn't  .....£70 please .!!!!

We were there two weeks ago ,  American visitors next to us had ticket because the warden couldn't recognise a US Blue Badge .
deke register on the following site peipoo for motorists as there are legal people on there that may be able to get you offf paying http://www.pepipoo.com hope this helps

For the definitive answer you would have to ask the "warden" but I would guess that he had already started to issue the ticket when your wife arrived.

Let me put it this way.

You do an Inspection and you find several things that are not only wrong but dangerous, only to be told "well it works"

Same thing really, you have been getting away with "ignoring the rules" for 6 years, now you have been caught.

The question is, next time you park, will you "set" the "silly cardboard dial"

The facts seem to be, you knew what you should have done, and you chose to ignore it, but this time you were caught.

I park and use "pay and display" machines several times a day, most days of the week, I don't like to do it, but I do because I know that is what I must do to avoid a ticket.
i just park outside a friends house or family members house in the town if im in lichfield

1/ fines paid promptly are usually reduced (at least here in Plymouth they are), yuo can also appeal promptly and not lose that reduction.

2/ Appeal, now, don't wait, just get on with it. 80% of appeals are successful.

As for traffic wardens, we re-lamped a council car-park which housed the staff room for the wardens - the pure hatred and abuse the public gives these people has no doubt resulted in the tyrannical nature of their law enforcement. They are ordinary people, without which our streets would be complete chaos, as they found out in a small village in Wales not long ago where they tried living without a warden for a while, resulting in grid lock due to public parking badly wherever they felt like it. They are a necessary evil :(

They are a necessary evil  :(
nobody doubts that.

but the hatred for them is the tyranical way they enforce the law like this example.

If the warden had just said "okay then, I can see you are disabled, and I can see you did not stay more than 2 hours so please use the timer next time" and not issued the fine, then the enforcement would be in place without the public hatred for them.

I don't encounter traffic wardens often, but actually the last time I did it was a polite experience.  I had parked in a 2 hour waiting spot, and was returning to the car bang on 2 hours from when I left it.  There was a warden stood next to it.

I imagined he was watching his watch, waiting for the minute to tick over and slap the ticket on.

But no, when I got there and said I'm just leaving he replied "no hurry, I always wait until you are at least 20 minutes over the time before issuing a ticket"  I thanked him and bid him a pleasant day.

If only they could all be a bit human like that.

There is a sign Noz  saying 3 hrs only    but it seems you have to set your clock on arrival   , so banged to rights although we have appealed so see what happens.  Just off there again now so being VERY careful this time,

Appeal denied ....  " Your clock showed you had overstayed the time limit of 3 hrs "    Although we'd only been there 10 mins  and the warden knew it .

Just paid online  the lesser penalty of £35   ...lesson learnt ...set clock  and whatever you do , don't put badge upside down , they REALLY like that one .

Talking of Cash Cows  motorists ,  last year Birmingham raised £3.5m  from cameras monitoring bus lane infringements  .    Theres a famous one in the city that catches visitors every time because of the  signage .

I think its the left turn off Steelhouse Lane into Bull St.  Beware .

This is actually untrue, we choose to remember, usually, what is important to us, bet you've never forgotten how to drive? Tie your boots? Make a brew? Carry out an electrical install? Book a holiday?

It's not about being a perfectionist, just remembering what why and wherefore, now in deke's defence! You can't remember so easily something you've never used or done! :)
