My wife is disabled, has been for some years, among a lot of other stuff she has constant pain from arthritis, a hip replacement , a heart condition, so consequently has to walk with two sticks and not very far at that .

But she can still drive as long as we have an automatic . This gives freedom .

However ,after 6 years of using the Blue Badge Scheme which is an absolute boon , some jumped up, burke of a paper pushing beaurocrat has decided ,after reading her renewal form ,that she is no longer disabled and will not renew the badge due to cut backs.

They don't pay any benefits or give any other kind of help its just the cost of a laminated card ,which we would gladly pay for. ( If we were a bunch of one legged ,lesbian so called assylum seekers with ten kids in tow they would have given us a new house before we had left the airport !!!)

The doctor has confirmed its cut-backs from the city council , so laminating a piece of card is going to save the country is it ? She is however going to write a letter .

Pity Birmingham doesn't try to recoup the

That's **** mate...

my wife has chronic abdominal pain, blood disorders and other problems.. she was getting DLA.. well she got worse and applied for an increase and they went and withdrew it.

so It doesn't surprise me, I think when people re-apply for benefits like this I think they just cancel them.. I guess that some can't be bothered to fight the system

I would make sure your wife writes a good letter of complaint.

I see the disabled badge so blatently abused that people who really need it are often too proud to complain.

Like others have said I hope its resolved soon, it really gets under my skin when this sort of thing happens.

shocking, my mum has MS and had to go through 3 assessments before the agreed that she was disabled at all, at the time she could walk but not far and not well, obviously it has progressed and she now has full DLA without question for the rest of her life but the crap they put her though yet others claiming bad backs etc with nowt wrong with them got it easy.

argue like hell mate and go to your local councilor!!

Dont put up with that Evans! Phone this twxt to complain and offer to break his legs over his own head, if you want I 'll do it for you headbangbad day explode

Seriously though, get your wife's Doctor involved or Occupational Therapy if you dont have much joy. Also why is your wife not getting any DLA for help with getting around? She must have off days and times when she cant drive through being in pain, she cant catch a bus like us lot so really she does deserve any help that is available to her to make her life a little bit easier.

BTW if you have got a carp doctor then change as that can help your situation a great deal.

I know the country is broke, but this isn't a way to save money.

Complain hard. Makes me sick the scroungers you see fiddling the system, then someone who deserves it doesn't get it. Sickening.

:|

Surely a better way to save money is to fire the idiot that said no to the renewal?

The people who really need them loose them but the people who never needed them in the first place will con the system and still keep them

Cut backs and more cut backs !!! Shouldn't mean that deserving people have to suffer due to cut backs and have their mobility taken away . My dad is a blue badge holder , he is retired and values the privilege of being able to park near to shops for example rather that 1/2 a mile across a car park which he would have done a few years ago but his condition doesn't allow it now .. Take his blue badge away would mean that access to public places would be severely effected :yellow card

Just wondered if your wife's condition means you can claim for a car under the motorbility scheme as that automatically qualifies you for a disabled disc.

if you get the higher rate DLA you can get a badge... What you then do with that money is up to you, if you have it awarded for 3 years or more you can get a car under the motability scheme.

My wife had one a few years ago...... never again

Thanks for all that lot guys . :Salute I did mean that the doctor is writing a letter not the missus. We don't get any benefits BTW. the Motorbility scheme might be worth looking at , thanks for that .

We know of someone who suddenly developed a "bad back" ,has been awarded benefit and a Motorbility car. She is married to our friends ex husband , but when his 12 year old son had his one day a week with them ,he came back and said " Why does ******* walk with two sticks and limps outside but chucks them in the corner and strides about with no problem when shes in the house?"

Out of the mouths of babes and children, Eh !

There are loads of "bad back" bagde holders.. they don't do it for the badge though they do it for the incapacity benefit and DLA (both components - personal care and mobility)

You need to get in touch with DWP (Department of works and pensions) and get the forms sent out as unfortunately it does sound like your wife should be entitled to something - DLA (Disability Living Allowance) comes in 2 parts as I said above and both of them have a lower and higher rate... to get a motorbility car you have to be awarded the mobility allowance at the higher rate for a period of 3 years or more (you are told how long once it's approoved) you can then get a brand new car any all you pay for is the fuel.. you may have to pay a certain amount towards the car, but it's usually only a few hundred quid.

To help with getting these benefits see your doctor (get them on side) and see if you can get an appointment with your local CAB to help you fill the form out.

The only problem with the motability scheme is that they expect the car back in a spotless condition any repairs need to be claimed off the insurance and you will have to pay the excess

from experience they don't expect the car to be spotless, they allow wear and tear which includes a few dents and scrapes but if you bash it all the time then yes you will have to bear the costs of repairs(its a lease hire car at the end of the day). costs wise this is completely random and down to manufacturer. parents have had mobility cars for quite a few years now and have had the following:-

M reg 1.4 Astra merit 3dr - nil deposit

R reg 1.6 Astra gls auto 5dr -
