Having just read the 45amp circuit thread....

Had a call from local landlord who I did a cu swap for a couple of years ago.......

"New tennant just moved in & they can't get their TV to turn on, they tried a table lamp in the socket & socket is dead but MCB's are all on".

Oh right.....have they done any work over by the sockets?

"No just moved in, but the TV socket is new..............the bloke I bought the 50" plasma from put a socket in for it when he mounted he wall bracket"

Ok......no cert I suppose?

"urrrrm no"

Anyway I get there & after noting the socket is on the reverse side of kitchen wall in line with the cooker, I switch on the cooker switch & hey presto on comes the TV....

The muppet has come off the cooker outlet behind the cooker................................superb.

So just done a quote to rectify (ontop of the

But was it supplied from a 45A rewirable fuse

HaHa

No Slips it's a 40amp BSEN 60898 NSB.......

It was however wired in 1.5mm 3 core flex from the cooker outlet to a fcu under the stairs then on to the socket, If I remember I'll take a picture when I go back to rectify & post in the black museum.

Yesterday I got a call ...bathroom fan not working. They had had a new shower fitted, hmmmmmmmm?!?!?

Cover off fan, 3 core rubber flex [0.75] disconnected from shower terminals!...at least the bloke who swapped the shower had the sense not to reconnect the flex. THEN I get the flack as I refuse to reconnect it! Landlord has retiled bathroom and rented property out, all cables/flex buried behind walls. OFG!... I struggled trying to explain that a lack of knowledge on his part did not suddenly become a problem on mine!... :coat

I have seen this too done by a builder that did his own electrics straight off 45 amp shower switch well they did want fan on when shower was on.

Well yes the guy that fitted the shower was right not to re connect the fan.

But FFS you would have expected him to TELL the owner that he hadn't re connected it and why, rather than let him find a "fault" later on.

Had similar on a recent call out, person who had done some "diy" had taken a spur off a 30 amp shower circuit in 1 mm flex.

It was for a socket in the loft.

The load live in the switch was totally burnt back from loose connection!!!

callout for me last night to a guy who changed the shower swith, but instead of wiring correctly he managed to connect the mains in to the live in and the live out (live to live in neutral to live out if you know what i mean) which blew the 30 amp fuse wire and basically he couldnt understand what he'd done wrong. this guy before christmas also managed to blow his lights up too. after trying to change a light in his lounge and put all the blacks together and all the reds together, as soon as the switch was turned on it again blew the lighting fuse some people just dont learn.

Evening Badge.

At least they keep us earning & wage & entertained on the forum with the stories.
