My PC's data protection program is flagging up uninstall.exe and shuts it down...

Is this a virus or a corrupt file?

(I'm using XP Pro)

I've drawn a blank so far on the net..

:|

if it gives a countdown til shutdown, quickly go to start, run, type 'cmd'. in window type 'shutdown -a' press enter. will abort the shutdown

i had a similar problem a while back. download a free antivirus and it should get rid of it

Mmm...

Not a task I enjoy, but I have decided to wipe my PC this wweekend...

Lot's of use/large file handling appear to have taken there toll. :_|

This will result in a much welcomed speed and better multi file handling..

Just need to list all my progs and check all discs required are available..

Should take about 2-3 hours..

Pray

i should probably do that to mine....got far too much useless stuff installed on this
Yes, it's amazing how many application files can be left on the PC (not required after installation)...

All data etc is best left on it's own drive or partition of the PC's hard drive..

;)

i have 3 hard drives in mine...

main hard drive is OS, programs etc.

2nd drive is my data. stuff i dont want to loose

3rd drive mirrors 2nd drive

had a few problems with hard drive failure before and dont want to go through that again (fortunately, the big problem with it wasnt physical so got just about everything back with recovery programs_

My biggest problem, is right clicking the mouse, it has to think about it, before giving me options...

And I seem to run out of virtual memory (the hard drive takes ages to transfer files)....

The regisrty is stuffed.

Not sure how usable your PC is but you can save a lot of your ID's Favs, email, address book etc, and restore to your new install, if unsure how to drop me a msg, the process ideally needs a large'ish USB memory stick, or you can install the OS on a separate HDD as Andy mentioned and copy the useful bits back from the old before you reformat

Thanks for that, I will of course copy links and other non backuped data to the 2 external HD's I have (prior to formatting)...

:p

BTW windows hides a lot of useful stuff in C:\Users\Administrator\Application Data (substitute Administrator for either Default or the name you use to login with

To get to the Hide feature, open My Computer, look for tools, click on folder options, then the View tab, and scroll down the options
