evening all,

a new customer (well hopefully) has a roller shutter door with the up/down selector switch (and emergency stop button).to open or shut the door you have to press and hold the button, once released the door stops moving, i assume this is a safety feature, but have seen one before where you press it once and it keeps going till its fully open/closed then stops.

ive been asked if it possible to change it to do this (takes 2mins but thats far too long for him to wait) or put a switch next to it that will do the job, ive never fitted one, so wondered if any of you guys know an easy way to do whats needed, or if it can be done.

i was thinking that if a normal switch was used it would just keep trying to open/close the door until its turned off, and if it wasnt switched off might burn the motor out.

was thinking of one of them pnumatic switches that turn off after a set time.

any advice would be appreiciated.

cheers wayne

That kind of operation is all part of the safety aspects of the install mate,,

Normally key operated ones will have the key position sprung so you have to hold it in that position.

You can get blip remote control units for these though

If you change anything to automated, it will need a safety over ride, PIR detection, and the like, and would cost more to set up, plus the added pain when things do not work as they should.

Usually turn off via a cam setup on the gear mechanisam so door stops at top and bottom limit.edit to much GuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinnessGuinness

monkey,

There are safety requirements that prevent doors from coming down automatically.

If you change this you would have to undertake so many safety checks and changes his 2 mins per day over the next 10 years would pale into insignificance.

As per Manator above.

Also, if it went wrong, then you would have to carry the can & your PI would have to cover you for the design changes and the court case.

Unfortunately these things work this way for a reason.

There is a requirement for annual servicing too, but I can't remember where that is now.

It may be extrapolated from PUWER98

there are limit switches etc in the gearbox to control when it will stop at top/bottom, along with backup incase it goes too far etc. and iirc there is a switch inside the control box to only move on button being pressed, or top max travel once button is pushed or its stopped
