I'm after some kind of ups to cover 1 circuit that feeds 6 fish tanks. Either that or some alarm that dials out in the event of a loss of power.

I've never installed a UPS before are they as simple as feed in feed out?

have used a few smaller computer UPS before. basically IEC input & a few out

be aware that battery life isnt great, especially at its rated output. small ones may only have a 12V 7AH battery

you could also connect more battery power to it, but if you do, make sure you also add fans to keep it cool & another charger for the extra batteries

Hi Sellers,

My 'Yale' home alarm dials out if any change of circumstances at home - including loss of power - so I suppose if it was on the same circuit as the tanks it would work.

I normally receive a text within a couple of minutes of shutting off the power.

There must be smaller/cheaper units available that will do the same thing - I'm assuming you don't want to splash out on a full home alarm system just to monitor the fish tanks. :)

all you really need is a dialler with battery backup, and a relay accross terminals conencted to mains. mains fails, relay changes position, signals dialler and it calls out
