Hi,

just wondered if it's worth sign writing the van and whether or not to put the 'no tools left in this van overnight' sticker on or is that inviting thrives to have a go. Also do you use one of them vanhasp back locks as they'll just go for the side door anyway.

What you guys recon. Any advice appreciated

cheers

IMHO Sign writing is a must!! So cheap too for the benefits it brings. As for the 'No power tools left in this vehicle overnight' sticker - what better way to advertise that you do have power tools and that you do actually leave them on board. Ins co's sometimes request them but they do the opposite thing IMO in actually inviting the robbery.

I've been having the same dilemma over the past 18 months, what worries me is that by signwriting the van it changes it from a little white van into a little white van which probably has copper in the back

Sign written van is probably the best advertising , people start to get used to seeing it around , I'd say go for it everytime .

The scum will break into it ,sign written or not.

Forget the " No tools left in this van" , they'll break in anyway.

Do invest in those top quality van locks .

Sign written vans are great for getting known and recognised...

I still get asked "are you an electrician?" from time to time when loading the van though;)

as for van locks... I back my van up against a wall and a big hedge so only drivers side is accessible... no side doors so if scum want to get at my stuff then they'd have to "sardine can" the side of my van... they won't get very far as that's the side that my rackings on

What sort of money is it to get side panels and rear door done with business name slogan web address and phone number on an astravan?? :D

they definitely get used to seeing it around. It's a lemony yellow colour transit. Bit loud but not bad van.

Can you get decent quality locks for the sliding door? I know the ones for the back door but not seen them on side door. There's no lock on any door apart from drivers door. All others work off keyfob

I've just put a van vault in my van for peace of mind. If someone does break in it's going to be a lot more hassle for them to get at anything worthwhile nicking (while the alarm is going off).

I'm also thinking of whether to get signwriting. Wouldn't it be lovely if there weren't thieving bast@rds in the world.

same locks for side door. if you have the height, you can put them high up between side door and panel above passenger door. or you can put them on right side of sliding door, carefully positioned so it doesnt obstruct the door, but still locks

My insurance dropped when the van was signwritten - waiting to get the new `un done............ once you`ve done it, free advertising ;) ....

As for locks / stickers. I didn`t bother. Nice chunky electrolytic capacitor, some chicken wire and a bit of rectification.............

My tools are in the van overnight - go for it. Once.

The flash / bang will scare the becrap out of `em, even if they HAVE got rubber gloves. Plus it`ll wake everybody up - they`ll think its daytime;)

back windows are the easy way in so board them up, wish i had :(

you can buy an alarm for very little, i expect you could fit it lol

magnetic signs? remove them at night.

the tube on the roof is enough to say your a trade, or just it being a van says there maybe somthing of value.

van vault would be money well spent imo

Another problem to consider is that you are less likely to get any sub contracting work if your van is sign written..
Go for magnetic signs, if you are liable to do sub contracting.
