Just wondering how I can get a complete key - ie the whole fob with electronics (ebay ones are just an empty shell) and the most cost effective way of getting it done? I have heard horror stories about it costing £££££s

No hurry and I havent lost or broken my key but the car was supplied with just one key and I'm kinda worried about what happens if I lose it..

Car is a 2011 insignia

Thanks

It'll need coding to the car anyway Rev.

I'll have a look and see what I can find now as I'm waiting for PC to do a few things, before it's really usable again!

Ahh, I see what you mean!

Have you tried Vauxhall?

I do know one of the Timpson area managers around here.

I'll ask him next time I bump into him.

You can buy a key and the electronics from eBay amongst other places (not second hand though as the immo chip cannot be reused). Central locking learning can be done easily enough, the immobiliser programming can be done with OpCom.

Best bet is have a look on some of the Vauxhall forums and you may find a member local to you with the kit required. Shouldn't cost much once it's all done (£10-20 for parts, few beer tokens for someone with OpCom).

You've worried me now Revo ,  this Vauxhall van caught me out when I picked it up .  I paid the guy for it, drove away , noticed as per usual , the fuel gauge on empty so headed for the nearest filling station .

After filling up it would'nt start ,   not a cough , had to push it away from the pumps , phoned a mate , ex Vauxhall mechanic, luckily just around the corner .

He takes the keys , gets in , and starts the engine , I'm thinking  "What kind of sorcery is this "

You were using the "Valet key " he says ,  that won't start the engine !!       Being a confirmed Ford man I'd never heard of a "Valet key"

So , waffling over , I too have only one key that will start my van .

I'd definately get a second key cut...

The key on my old Kangoo failed, I had an auto electrician/key guy out and he couldn't sort it so the van was towed to a Renault garage...on the 22nd December

I ended up with 2 options...

1. Get a new key... It would have had to be ordered from Renault France so I didn't think that I'd get my van on the road until mid Jan

2.Get a new set of keys (not barrel) with a new immobilizer pick up coil and ecu... they could have got this ordered and fitted the next day....

I went with option 2 and it ended up costing me £360.....

Spare key for wifes Citoen chassied Horse box £ 240! It had to come from France and then be coded BUT the Dealer could only do this IF the locks and all other stuff were still,as original otherwise the codes would not match.!

Deke.........you live in a different world to us.

Up int north we tend not to,get our vans valeted......brush out and hosing once a year whether it needs it or not!

Well as I said, I'd never heard of a "Valet key" ........opens the doors but won't start the engine .   I presume when new , the van would have 2 proper keys .

I have to say that other than that the vehicle is fine for a small van .

There are some things that pee me off with cars .  I heard of a Merc with the indicators malfunctioning  cost him ..like £800 because the flasher electonics were part of the main engine management board or some such nonsense.

Also a  Citroen where the main dealer charge £1000 to replace a front light bulb because the whole front has to be removed ...then all lamps replaced .

Mate's Merc is costing him £800 next week for front discs & pads ............  same job on  Mrs Deke's Focus  £70.
