A friend has spent many years working with children including sexually abused and young offenders - incredibly difficult and stressful work. But for every case that goes sour and the kid cannot be successfully re-habilitated, at least 20 -30 are turned around to grow up into useful adults, despite some appalling backgrounds. Trouble is the press don't report this, basically because they can't due to client confidentiality preventing social workers and associated do-gooders presenting their side of the stories, and showing how much good work they actually do.
