Anybody use it?

Thinking of swapping from Sky & BT (Bt phone/broadband cost has rocketed now the initial contract is up) to Virgin media.

So just after any pros & cons you may have.

I have been with virgin media since it was ntl.

Pros

cable less likely to be effected by weather

faster broadband speeds possible (in certain conditions)

cons

Expect average bills of around

I must say that I have had bad feeling with the old NTL.

I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I have ntl cable modem but moved back to sky many years back. They are expensive and under channelled.

had telewest/virgin internet for many years now. rarely have any problems with anything, but if you do, its a premium rate to call their tech support. and there hopeless (one example, a while back the modem had no incoming signal. phoned them and he insisted that the problem was after modem because it was responding as it should. pulled wire from modem and got him to try again - must have a wireless modem since he told me it was still working fine...)

i used to work for them

i dont go near them

20meg BB my bottom,,it has the potential to give it

in a nutshell,,,,,,Virgin will have 1 fibre cable going to a hub feeding 500 homes,,from the hub its cabled to distribution cabinets

up until then the bandwidth is all shared with other people, its the cable from the box to your house that is your dedicated bit. more people on BB in your area the less speed you get

if you cant see the box from your house or it is longer than 100m away it will suffer with loads of problems,,too many amplifiers to go wrong

BT,,,you have a dedicated line back to the exchange

80% of traffic goes through bt anyway

the last Virgin builing i was at BT had their own room

leave that with you

Technology wise, CM's are much better than ADSL. Just hope NTL have segmented your loop enough.

i would knock of yr neigbours door see what speed they are getting and what type of reliabilty they have

Don't think this is too shabby:

I'd kill for 25% of that!!!, 3 miles from exchange no ntl/virgin so have to use a pox 1meg service :_| :_| :_|

I've a couple of mates on virgin they say the bill keeps going up, then they threaten to leave for sky, the bill comes down, then creeps up over the next 6 months and the cycle starts again.

We are with sky and I've had no major complaint, price is going down rather than up, they have not figured out I can't go to virgin ssshhh but they still drop the rate when I threaten to leave unless they match new customer deals:^O:^O.

Why is there only a choice of Maidenhead or London then?

Mine is the Lowest that it has ever been. :(

I am with sky, and find it good, got my broadband, phone and tv

They even charge the bt line rental through my sky account ( at the same cost ) so i only have one bill

I was going to leave them due to the prices creeping up, but when i rang them to sort the cancellation they just dropped the price of my package by about 30%

I was still in two minds to tell them where to stick it, because they have dropped the price without batting an eyelid, when i should have been getting the best deal from day one

But i decided to carry on as their new offer was a better deal than any others i had looked at

Maybe worth a "leaving phonecall" you have nothing to lose, and if it works it saves the hastle of changing providers
