do you have access to another PC you can use on your network?

if you dont have an external HDD or another PC on your network then the best you can hope for is to probably use a Ubuntu Live CD and get the virus in quarantine, then boot back into windoze and save your files somewhere safe, then wipe your hard drive and install Ubuntu permanently, will stop this happening in the future,

your other option is to disable admin as a log in to windoze, that will stop .exe from running, but also will cripple windoze working 'properly' , saying that though, windoze doesnt work properly anyway. :slap

Paul, where are you? maybe someone could help here.

Do a google search there are many articles on this, and one of them should work for you.

Failing that copy my documents to flash drive and anything else, format and install, or roll back a week or two.

copying 'my docs' isnt going to help if the virus is in 'my docs' , is it?

thats the problem with windoze, and , dare I say it, the people that use it, 99% of home users log on as admin, notwithstanding the fact that .exe has auto run permissions anyway on windoze whether you are admin or not.

My advice, get a second machine, that is "Only used for business", no downloading music, or browsing websites on it, just trusted places like the bank.

Get a proper computer that won't get a lame virus. Linux or apple.

In almost 10 years of using apple, I go where I like, download what I like and have never had a problem yet.

As above,

Paul b b , why dont you just install Ubuntu have have done with all the carp windoze involves?

What sort of hardware and printer etc do you have?

Are you computer literate? If, like me, you have less than a clue then Linux is the way to go.

Well having read a few of the rectification methods, it does not reside in "my documents" and even if it did providing you are good with your folders you would know if anything is untoward.

A good antivirus/malware program is a must and worth spending money on imho, I use Avast paid version and have never had any issues ever (touch wood) and I've been using windows since 3.1

Those that wonder why unbuntu/linux/apple don't get hacked, the first two are for tight arses that use them, so they have nothing worth nicking, the last is software apps not real computing software, so yuppie toys really :innocent

you will probably find that far in excess of 70% of the most important computers in the world are *nix based,

how do you think most servers are controlled?

fair enuff, I a tight wad [well, a skint one actually] , but I could never use something as bad as windoze again,

Linux simply does what I want it to do, when I want it to do it, no hassles, and no carp bloatware, if I dont want something on my system, I dont have to have it,

try deleting IE from your windoze PC and see if it likes it. :slap

Download Antimalwarebytes onto a usb stick on another computer, then start yours in safe mode and run the anti maleware bytes program.
