Hi, I've been asked to run a cable approx. 200 meters to run a shop metal shutter. It has a switch that has a common feed and three cables out, one is on the switch that lifts the shutter the other is off and the 3rd is lower shutter. The current is very low, I put a clamp meter on it and it read 0.06 Amp when running. The voltage is 230VAC. Will I need to worry about the length of the run? If you can advice me I would appreciate it.

Many thanks

Paul

Well you know the working current, you know the length, you should know the allowable voltage drop, so it's easy to work out the cable size.

I do think 60mA sounds a bit low, so I would double check that measurement. I'm sure it's got more than a 14.4W motor. Make the measurement when lifting the shutters up, as it will be working harder then.

At 0.6 A  a 1.5 mm2  would do it . clipped direct  dropping say 4A .   It can't be 0.06A  surely .  ( Think I'd  put a 2.5mm in)

Why did you describe the up/down switching ?    Its not being switched from 200M away is it ?     You have to be stood next to anything such as that to work it....H&S   and all that.

I have to ask the question Lurch ...do you not have a Regs book ?
