Water pump/soakaway

Morning all,

Just had a call regarding a water pump in a soakaway, it tripped the rcd last night. I may have to go and look today and was after some hints and tips on probable causes...

I know it becomes clogged up from time to time but dont recall it ever tripping the rcd....

I spose dismantling it is the only way to find that out, are there any tests i can perform to diagnose pump problems?

Other than insulation tests, not really.

You could find that the cable to the pump has been extended somewhere; and the joint is as watertight as it should be????

Hi all,

Went to look at pump today, it's a submergable sump type, to find a rat/mouse has chewed threw the cable.

The good news for me is it's a straight swap, bad news for client is that a new one is

Buy a new one, you will get a full warranty that way.

I did call local pump repairers but all they could offer was a heat shrink repair, but the cable was damaged too near to the pump end and it would have caused problems trying to feed it back through inspection chamber.

I got a new one and I'll fit it tomorrow...

NOT a pump repairer, a motor rewinder, that way they can replace the whole cable.

I could have done a heat shrink repair! ; )
