My 15 year old sister is doing her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's award. Part of the scheme is a trek in the wilderness. As part of the training she has apparently been taught and is proficient in amputations if needed be. She wasn't taught to stabilise a patient, to call for help or CPR as of yet. The world has gone mad, and no I am NOT joking as I write and was told this.

dont you actually have to have done a few to be seen as being proficient?

and NO,

Im not wanting her to prove to me personally, I like all my bits, thank you very much.!

Dont worry its armless

Dont complain cos you may find you donot have a leg to stand on:D

WTF!!!! wasnt taught that when i done mine! we got taught basic 1st aid and patient stabilisation the old way ABC Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and then call for help!

maybe they should have let them watch 127 hours, he certainly was proficient in amputation! :p

seriously tho zee that is ridiculous, have they explained as to why they require to be proficient in amputation prior to understanding and carrying out basic 1st assistance in an emergency situation!

Ah, now there's your mistake - making the assumption that teachers are actually teaching!! Good for nothing lefty striking civil servant nobody's. Don't get me started! Days of being 'taught' in school are generally long gone.
