What Qualifications Do I Need To Start Part Peeing

Hi All

Firstly thanks for having me on board, (Forum Virgin so please be gentle).

What I think I know:

Currently employeed in an unrelated industry.

Will complete 2330 pt3 in June 2010.

Will go onto Test & Inspect in Sept 2010

Will need 17th Edition

Will need regs, insurance, calibrated meters & registered body membership etc

Myths/Uncertainties

What are the minimum registered body requirements (They seem to vary)?

Do I need to have a part P qualification?

Do I really need Test & Inspect?

I do not want the bare minimum, but at the same time will need to start earning from my educational investment in the not to distant (wife starting to think I've been off down the pub twice a week for the past two years!)

If you want "Domestic Installer" only registration with one of the "Approved Bodies" (NICEIC, Napit, ECA etc) they usually only require a current regs qualification & a testing one (2391 or 2392) as well as the insurance, test kit & the ability to pay the subs, this will cover you for Part P purposes. The testing qualification is essential (they'll often grant provisional approval if you're booked on the course) as Part P requires you to inspect, test & certify your work.

Personally I think this is wrong but they don't actually require you to be a qualified electrician!

If you want to get a CSCS card & be JIB graded so you can work on big sites you'll need 2330 L2 & 3 and the 2356 NVQ, which you need to be working in the trade to acheive.

Welcome to the forum.

When you have the 2330 Levels 2 & 3, you DON'T need the 2393 (Part P) as well as you have already covered it in your course.

I do believe (Others will confirm this) that you have a certain period whilst on a Part P Scheme - to get your 2391 T&I. The assessor will ask you more questions than normal on T&I to satisfy himself with your knowledge.

If you want to specialise in Housebashing (Domestic only), I know that NICEIC (Area assessor, down my neck of the woods) is happy to accept the 2392 (Fundimental Inspection & Testing). Not sure about the other Part P Providers stance on that (Such as BSI, NAPIT & ELECSA etc).

the minimum nic eic require for di is the 2382, then its showing your competent, u will need to know how to test, u need a tester, bs 7671, part p (down load) and health and safety at work book, 2 million insurance

Thanks for the info, will have to gauge my own competancy after this year to see which of the two T&I will best suit, then get off my lazy fat one and start working for a living.
