When I quoted the job I thought it was TNCS but now i've removed the cover (spotted the extra cable and thought I'd best check the supply) I'm thinking maybe TNS??

TNS (Probably)

Those service Cut outs have a link that can be Left in for TNCS Or taken out for TNS

As you have a separate BLACK conductor coming in with CNE Cable then the Earth is SEPERATE in the supply hence TNS (Unless the jointer left the link in)

I'd have said PME ( TNCS ) till I saw that cable coming from the base , it does'nt look very big , what the hell is it ? Was there a cover over that bare incoming neutral , I see the shape on the wall. Never seen a cable like that addded to a cut out.

I would report this to the DNO, I doubt that they have left it in this condition, and any attempt to prove the supply characteristics would be guesswork.

There looks to be some evidence of another attachment under the fuse cutout, which has now been removed.

I think I would agree with manator and report it to the dno.

I can't see them leaving it like that and if they did they want a right good tellin off

The OP states that a cover has been removed... so it hasn't been left in this state, the bare neutral would presumably have been covered up.

Sorry mate you are correct the OP did state that.

Still a rough job though :)

Now I would love to have a look inside :)

It is that.

All the cutouts that I have seen have a Y-shaped boot covering the whole lot. And as for that extra lead...

:C

At college they have 3 set ups of how they should like , but after being here a while now I havent seen 1 that looks like those we have been shown at college :Blushing :Blushing:Blushing .

Maybe a new sub forum just for pictures of service heads for us newbies with discussions and where possible definative it is this

This is an OLD style HENLEY Service cut-out installed in the days when BLACK was an acceptable colour for Earthing conductors.

This was probably installed as part of a SERVICE alteratIon when a TNS service was extended to a new position, the single black would have been swetted on to the original lead sheath and bought along side the new CNE cable used to extend the L and N.

In those days if an existing service was TNS then an extension of it was kept the same and not turned into TNCS as strick PME regulations were in force.

The Service Cut-out was DUEL Purpose with a removeable link to enable TNS or TNCS to be selected.

You win the prize, I found rings that left the board as a single 6mm t+e and some other clues. The original garage is now a dining room and it the fuseboard almost certainly used to be in there.
