I come from a mechanical back ground but i have taken my portable appliance,

plus 17th edition exams and passed, i would like to know the next run of the ladder, would it be part p, 2392, and then on to 2391.

Advice would be a great help with my limited electrical back ground.

I would like to go into the installation side of things. :pray

Self-employed or employed?

Either way, 2392 is (as far as I know), A) just a stepping stone to the 2391, to get used to the terminology etc, and B) only for single-phase installations. You'll need 'Part P' (C&G 2393) for self-employment as you haven't got 2330.

My advice would be to go to college and take 2330 or the new 2357.

2392 will teach you how to Inspect & Test new installations but you really need to learn how to install first. 2391 is for electricians with experience of Inspecting & Testing so it would be a little like being an MoT inspector who isn't a qualified mechanic.

Would be inclined to do some 'mating' for a spark so you can learn the ropes, and how to deal with older installations. PAT testing you can just go out a do, but have a practice at home/neighbours/family to get some real life experience first
