We looked at a job in Southgate yesterday where the 94 year old ladys CFL's  have all blown, only got 199 volts L to  N & L to E at the supply. Bit of a rush on the way home but i suppose i will have to report this as she wont. Not had this before on one house, or maybe the whole block/phase is affected and the neighbours have not noticed either
I had a customer who complained there cooker took ages to cook, and kettle took a while to boil. They only had 180V.

they reported it and a few days later it was 240V again, no one dug anything up outside there house, (i think)

That's a bit like me adjusting air pressure on our machines.

I let an engineer talk me into dismantling a 5 port 2 way solenoid valve and putting some wd into it this afternoon. A bad mistake a new one is to be ordered in the morning.

Never trust what an engineer tells you, they'll push your arse in to the fire to save themselves from getting a roasting.
Lesson learnt Tony. It was against my gut instinct but he was on the phone to an "expert" at british federal lol. The funny thing is the boss is in norway so he (said engineer) can sign the requisition for a new one tomorrow.

I noticed over the past few weeks that the DNO is digging up a lot of pavement all over, it looks like they are digging up joint boxes.

I was wondering they had found the reason for the exploding pavements???

Anyone else spotted this?

Are you on about linkboxes or actual joints? Link boxes, like everything else, doesn't have a forever life span so they do need replacing. Could be that your DNO has just done a spell of linkbox inspections and decided that remedial work is needed.

Replacing UG link boxes would mean large area outages so that is highly unlikely.

Not necessarily. Stick backfeeds on and do live cuts and you could keep everyone on. It needs to be phased in anyway.

Sorry I've been MIA btw, I've not been under the patio but @steptoe went out to get more beer and forgot to leave me the keys for the handcuffs...

I don’t know what the practise is nowadays with link boxes, it used to be done only on de-energised cables (EMEB). I suppose mechanical connections are used now.

Three of us went to EMEB’s college at Woolaton. Because we used cast iron joint boxes rather than terracotta we had to take three from work. It wasn’t the best of ideas to pile the lot in the boot of my car.

Thanks for your reply @misssweden I guess it's just PPM, though they are doing it in a hurry.

They are replacing both the link boxes and the submarine joints all over North and East London and are using sub Contractors from different companies to complete the works.

The original point in asking was that I was curious to know if they had discovered the reason or cause of the exploding pavements??

:)
