I own a Ford Cmax and its got no spare wheel just a stupid inflation kit (a compressor and bottle of gunge) So I sees a spacesaver spare wheel at a carboot sale. Only a fiver - I check the pitch of the bolt holes and its right. So I buy it. Now I notice its 2" in diameter smaller than a standard tyre on my car. This means the corner with the spare on it will be 1" lower than the rest. Given that its only a get you home solution and is unlikely to do many miles will it matter?

The car booter said it was off a Volvo and it says Volvo on it. Didnt think Volvo made small cars?

whats smaller? the tyre or the rim?

may be that the rim is the same, but a different tyre fitted

as a get you home, it would probably do the job, but i wouldnt want to use it for more than that. may also be some legal issues of road worthiness if you got stopped

I think thats probably going to be the answer a proper sized spare from a scrappy. Just annoyed with myself for not checking it properly at the carboot! ah well I'm doing one in a few weeks so will put it out again and maybe get my fiver back!

While on the subject of wheels and punctures I'll post this , of which I was not aware .

Puncture in the wife's Focus , pull over, can't get the wheel off after removing the wheel bolts . Is there a secret , fifth bolt , I say to myself and the Missus.

Phone a mechanic mate who tells me that alloy wheels weld themselves onto steel hubs . Finally get it off after putting the boot in.

My M8's Saab has the front wheels well and truly stuck , he,s damaged the tracking now , trying to get them off .

So , if you are not aware of this, be aware . Needs something applying between wheel and hub , Grease ? Vaseline? Cling film ? WD 40 ?

Had this with the Wife's Shogun. .....and that is some Mother of a wheel, weighs a ton at least. I was worried that I just was not up to the job of lifting it off. 10 minutes leathering with a 4lb hammer and lump of wood managed to free it!! Lashings of Copperslip and it has never happened since. It spends a lot of it's time up to its nuts in mud and sh!te in pursuit of her equestrian leanings............... :coat

These emergency tyres/wheels are known as doughnut(s).

They are designed to be used (safely) over a distance of 50 miles at a maximum speed of 45 mph.

Anything more than that may cause a blow out to occur.

Oh!

I keep copperslip, ordinary EP grease, WD40, Engine oil (for oil can), PlusGas, Brake Cleaner, Electrical Cleaner, White Grease, Silicon grease, heat shrink paste, silicon sealer, caulk, gripfill, semi structural sealer the list goes on and on!
