got the usual today after i'd finished what i was there to do. can you look at this loose socket. go to tighten screws up and they just keep turning, take socket front off and re thread but holes are all ready too big.

the back box is nailled in not screwed and its in the kitchen so tiled in too. so can not be removed.

tried a nut on the back of screw but kept spinning and wouldnt tighten.

was getting late so said would have a word with wholesalers to see if they sell some thing i could use - they havent.

so what have you guys/gals done in this situation. any ideas would be appreciated as always.

if the lugs are removeable, you may be able to swap them to some from a new box

failing that, lugs from a new box, held in place any way you can, enough to get the screw to bite. should then hold its-self in place whilst tightened

Drill a hole directly behind lug in the back of the box and thread that with long screws ?

Cut lugs off another back box, use a bit of tape to hold in place behind the existing lugs (make a small hole in the tape to allow screw through) & then screw in plate screws.

Do you have access to tips and tricks? There's an old, but good thread on this
i do mate ill have a search for it cheers.

thanks to all other for the suggestion, think that'll be what ill have to try next. (both lugs have gone, 1 is removeable 1 fixed).

cheers

found the thread patch cheers. got a few options.

will try the squeezing of lug first, then the lug behind then it'll be no nails as last resort i think.

Another would be an extension stud with a nut on the back to lock it in place if you have the length in front of the existing lug for the extension stud?

Sell em a complete rewire cuz it's a serious threat to national security!!!!!!
