Hi guys i want to replace an existing exterior pir security light. Issue is that it is currently wired with a perm live and switchable from a switch in the kitchen plus n and earth ie 4 wires. New light is integrated pir which only has a terminal block connection for the standard l n and e and no access to internal wiring that connects pir sensor to light. So do i just wire in the perm live and leave the switchable live terminating in a seperate block or is there a way i can keep both the perm and switch live so i can still use switch in kitchen ?

Thanks for any help

only if you access the switched live inside the fitting.

oh, also some fittings have an overide if you switch the perm live a certain number of times.

Yes you can usually connect a switch wire direct to the lamp within the fitting connection box .

Or check to see if the fitting one that will remain on if you flick the switch quickly, in which case use the switch wire and leave the switch in the on position .

And welcome to the forum , are in the trade or a DIYer ?

Hi diy where electrics are not a strong point

Thanks for getting back to so quickly. So just to confirm sounds like i should probably just wire in the switchable live as i cant wire to lamp as this is an led light ( sentinel xled home) and leave switch on which is fine. Then for the perm live terminate this in a one block and stuff that in to the light fitting somewhere (space a bit limited)

or better still,

log in and ask for advice before hand, that way hopefully we can prevent it going astray for you in the first place, :)

oh, and welcome, .
