As i have only just worked out how to turn on this laptop i thought i would ask you lot for some ideas about a house we have just finished wiring.

Big house over 3 floors and quite wide, also loads of steel work went in so i very much doubt any wireless signal will travel.

The master telephone point is in the study in one ground floor corner of the house ( i have cabling in place that this could be extended to the 1st floor & a secondary point fitted in its place ). Thats where i would connect the router. The customer has the free router supplied by BT. We wired Cat 5 cables to a central electrical cupboard on the 1st floor (also telephone cables) from there Cat 5 cables go to the top floor & a 50m run to the detached games room. Also from the first floor cupboard Cat 5 cables are wired to the 10 Tv positions.

What would the best way to connect all this up and also give wireless access to the whole house. Would you fit a 10w hub in the 1st flr cupboard and can you extend the wireless by plugging something into the hub which is then connected direct to the router . Can more than one booster/extender be connected ?

Thanking you in advance for all the wonderful ideas you are about to offer me

Creep;) ;)

It'll get you everywhere

Wireless Access point on each floor.

How many data points have you wired back to your comms cupboard.

Do you have telephone point there too.

If yes fit router there and feed data points, then stick wireless access point at a data point on each floor.

A patch panel may be overkill if you don't have many data points, so if you only have say 8, you could 2 X 4 gang RJ45 points instead and patch from router into them.
