c'mere there's more

just been reading threads What exactly can an 'domestin installer do and Night School Electricians

i feel there is some discontent lobbied here at non quailified folks trying there hand at sparkin, but water off a ducks back.

learning and respect are important and i think it is dependant on your personallity wither you chose to listen to advice or ignore it. you cant buy expierence but time is money.

i am past first fix of diy extension wiring project and joined this forum after admin threatened me with the 3ph neutral to the scrotum for spending too much time as a guest.

safety is my main concern.

i plan to install a second cu and upgade the existing cu and split the load on both (rcd protected).

i have a heap of questions to ask.

how to protect a bathroom. i have ran both bathrooms as separate circuits, two shower circuits, and extended the earth bonding in existing bathroom in to new bathroom. the earth bond entered the existing bathroom at radiator as a 6inch tail hide under the flooring and not terminated anywhere , looped through to sink and bath. what do i do with the non connected earth? am also advised to terminate my new bathroom earth in the electric shower to achieve equipotentail bonding? is bonding required if rcd is fitted.

equipotential bonding is always req'd and is nothing to do with the bathroom.... supp bonding isnt needed in bathroom if certain conditions are met. see 7671 for more info.

Why are you upgrading exisint CU and installing second?

why have you extended earthing from one bathroom to other?

From your questions, i get the feeling your not competent to do the work?

the existing cu is a memera 2000 with sockets rcd protected and with 2 free spaces.

for the extension i have run a separate ring main upstairs, down stairs lightiting circuits 10mm shower cable to ensuite and ensuite lighting

a sparky friend of mine said looping the earth through to the ensuite from the main bathroom to the ensuite was ok.

but tell me this was the original earthing in the bathroom a sound job our should this earth cable all of 6" be tucked neatly in grip fill under the floor? and was the spark who wired my house 10 years ago competent.

Your words not mine.

learning and respect are important and i think it is dependant on your personallity wither you chose to listen to advice or ignore it. you cant buy expierence but time is money.

Again your words not mine.

Fisrt point all the regulars on this forum would welcome anyone who wants to know the right way to do things, above all we all want good sound and safe working practices.

I would rather tell someone the correct way to do it than leave them to their own devises. Water off the back means that you do not really care what we think, but I am still willing to give you some advise.

Second point time is money is what bankers and politicians work by, as an electrician safety and protection of property and life are above every time scale.

You can not rush progress or learning.I am almost 50 and still learning and I have been shown some tricks by my young apprentices.

If you want to know anything you will always find an answer on this forum, I really do not care if you think we are ass holes or whatever, our main objective is to pass on our knowledge in the hope that your wife, or children do not suffer because of your ignorance.

Back to your post, the extention could be wired seperately from the rest of the house and is common practice where the electrician does not want to get involved with the exsisting installation.

There is no requirement to link one bathroom to the other as you are then transferring one equipotential zone to another.

The electrician that rewired your home 10 years ago may have had a good reason for not connecting the earth bonding, we will never know but the fact that he placed it there in the first place would suggest he covered all bases.

To equipotential bond the bathroom all electrical points have to be linked, so for a typical bathroom you would have shower to light to fan to light switch to hot pipe to cold pipe to radiator, all of which if not soldered have to be visible for inspection.

With the new regulations and all circuits being rcd protected bonding is not required providing certain conditions are met, for reference see the big red book.

I hope I have answered your questions, and I hope you will ask again if you are unsure of anything, I would rather you ask than to do something that could cause a danger to anyone.

If your going to do anything do it right and ask if you are unsure.

thanks for the help i really do appreciate helpful comments.

water off the ducks back is my response to those who chose to be unhelpful. and i am willing to liten to those with something contstructive to say

time and money despite being great pink floyd tunes are inextricablly linked to expierence

i dont believe anybody on here is an *******

as i said saftey is my main concern and ran a new cable to allow rcd protection in existing bathroom
