Hi

Been living in australia for last 9 years but heading home this summer.

I was doing a lot of nightclub fitouts as a subbie all over the place before i left for oz, working out of chichester.

Heard good and bad about work prospects and don't know what to belive, anyone know of any bigish contracts coming up, maybe for the olympics? Is work hard to come by? sparky's were in demand when i left.

Cheers

Things must have changed alot since you left mate. Things are bad over here at the moment. Sounds like it's all ok in Australia tho?

Hang on Sparkyoz , let me get this right , you are leaving Oz and returning to the UK ? Why would anyone do that ??? Surely its one way traffic ? Can you not stay in Oz ? Its carp here and getting worse.

There will be Olympic work but may be Dead-man's Shoes jobs .!

The only big project I know of in the Midlands is refurb on New Street Station .

The tax system is carp.

The VAT is now 20%.

Its the 2nd most overcrowded country in the world,

Petrol costs a fortune.

There is little work around.

Its freezing cold -19 deg. last week.

We have Part P .nonsense.

Too many sparks, they multiply each week.

Mind you if you meet certain ethnic and religous criteria you will probably be given a council house ,rent free, a car ,taxed, and

if you must move, move to those country's on the up. hong kong etc

imo its one huge reason were on a downward slope. we don't make owt anymore its all imported. industrial estates area deserted everywhere

What message is that sending out though. 2& half years each man caught for 14 million pounds worth of drugs. Even though they were just the lookouts/growers. Bet the ringleaders ain't been caught.

I'm totally with Deke here.... He has summed it up nicely!!!

Why on earth would you want to go back to the UK?? Great to go back and visit family and friends, but to go back there to LIVE!!!! No Way!!!

All i can think of is, that this must be down to your wife, ....Seen that here and elsewhere far too many times, and they lived to regret it too!!! What you told us here about your income and living arrangements, you just ain't going to get anything, even remotely similar.

Before you can even start work, you'll have to train for 17th Ed, then there's all the other twoddle you'll need, because guess what?? your no longer qualified to undertake installation testing/PIRs and the like?? The UK's gone plumb crazy mate, from what i can make of it. It's certainly NOT the UK you left behind nearly 10 years ago, as others are trying to tell you

You are turning your back, on what many have tried and failed to achieve, ....getting into Oz for a BETTER life, prospects, and future!! ....Most can't get the required points you require, to be considered.

One things for sure, your going to regret that move back to UK. Once here, ...If you had any sense, you'd be booking that flight straight back to Oz, while you've still got money in your pocket.... Cause you sure won't have that money for long, staying/living in the UK!!! And you can take that to to the Bank!!! ...lol!!!

thats excellent advice about staying oz, if i have the chance of emigrating with enough money in my life id do it, certainly the uk has gone past the trash bin and into the hell bin, im sure the devil rules the uk now!

Too many sparks, they multiply each week.
with the 2330 being phased out and the only way to get on to the new course is if you are woking an Apprenticeships (which are gold dust)

wont they be short of electricians within the next few years?

Don't worry too much Nowman, ...I'm sure they'll always be plenty of Eastern European sparky's to take up the slack.... lol!!!

Cheers Guys,

Well thats definatly made me think twice about going back home, will try out a holiday first.

I suppose it is mostly driven by my wife and her desire to get our australian kids in a nice english school and live in a village with a nice country pub next door, bit like midsummer murders but with out the murders.

I can't belive there is such a demand for sparky's over here, they are short everywhere, specially the mines. One pommy guy was sponsored by his company but had to stay with them for 2 years, not too bad on $140k.

Have any of you guys looked into immigration, once you have your australian licence im sure most would have a choice of where they wanted to live and work.

There are a few poms knocking about in the mines and a lot on the qld coast and loads in perth, they are valued by employees cos of there work ethics.

Enjoy the snow, we are on flood warning and down south on fire danger alert.

Happy new year

Country pubs thats a laugh they a closing down each week as they can't compete against supermarkets selling cheap cans. The rest have been changed into indian resturants.

thats true about pubs. who goes to the pub anymore? answer not bloody many people. in our town a large well known bar and are found in most towns was really popular and a good night out only open friday and saturday now. the days of having to wear shoes and charging you to get in have gone because of low attendance so anyone can get in dressed however.

sounds like a manic post which i certainly do not do doom and gloom but that is how it is.
