Just thought I would share our little experience from last week......

(although it has absolutely no relevance to anyone else! :pBlushing)

coffee

We had a bit of a power loss at the SL household...

I'd been out dropping my daughter off at a meal with her friends,

got back home the house is in darkness! :|

Check all the trip switches, RCD's .. ALL ON! ?:|

Test meter on the incoming tails... No juice coming in!

Had another quick look outside, as far as I can see all neighboring properties have lights on!!!? :(

Check the main fuse.. all Intact.. No power coming into property! :_| :_| :_|

So time for a phone call to "International rescure"...

And lo it came to pass that the e-on boys came did a few checks & tests...

decided me incoming cable was broken somewhere under me drive!!!! :_| :_|

So...

we end up getting fish and chips for tea...

torches & candles..

grab the leisure battery out of the caravan, plug in a 12v light we use in the awning when on hols...

Do lots of non - electrical requiring activities! and wait while the electric men to dig and cut and join outside...

Power back on at about 2:00am!

This was the hole about 6ft from me front door the following morning.

I will just clarify that the small feet at the top of the picture are NOT very young e-on employee's... they are me youngest..

listening very intently while dad explains the intricacies of incoming electrical supply cable jointing repairs.... :D :^O:^O:^O

I gave him a written test the following day to make sure he had been paying attention!!!ROTFWLROTFWLROTFWLROTFWLROTFWL

Guinness

Just to say a big thumbs up the the network boys doing their bit through the night:x:x:x:xApplaud SmileyApplaud SmileyApplaud SmileyApplaud Smiley

DNO can be useful at times

few years ago i fitted a shower for someone, then gets a call saying there is smkoke from the service head when shower is used....

called DNO, 20 mins they take head apart and say its a 4mm

2 resin joints eh? I made the mistake of cutting a cable right through to out a tap off joint onm. I hadn't realised how roughly it had been dragged in by another contractor. As I chopped it the cable pulled apart leaving about 18" gap so I had to put 2 in!

so we are using elestic cables now?!

Glad power was restored to your household . hope your drive gets put back too mate :D

Drives all back and done now...

But the plastic barriers are still leaning against the garden wall on the footpath at the front of the house....

No doubt they will remember and come back and collect them at some stage?? :D

Dno seem to be having lot of trouble with cables at moment we have had two down our road they had generators for quite a few days. I hope you re -sealed that main fuse.

Do they have to do the jointing live or can they turn the juice off as wont everyones go out if they turn it off?

Cheers

Glad its all sorted for you now specs. It makes a change when the leccy goes out as you have to think how they managed without it before it was discovered

some of the supplied they work on are live and some are killed depends on the situation i think.

Would depend if they have a short on cable it probably will be off any way a circuit breaker /fuse will be out. But generally on meter moves etc they will work live.

From talking to the guys who were digging my drive up, our fault hadn't taken out any other fuses / breakers anywhere.

and AFAIK they did a live repair, cuz the one guy was still joining bits up when one of the others popped back in the house to double check the incomer at the main fuse had become live again.

:D

stuff like this is normally done live

even if it had taken a fuse at substation, they would probably have removed fault, powered up and then continued repair

dont you just love us e.on guys ;)

expect the barriers to be there a while!

balfours should pick them up though :)
