Your thoughts - water damaged swa

are you wanting to use a resin joint to branch off to each light?
Well, TBH I'm not 100% sure of the best way to do this Blushing. I've looked at those resing joints and other underground junction boxes, but they're all so expensive. Obviously, if that's the safest way to do things, cost doesn't come into it.

Say I want four lights in a raised bed - do I have to run the SWA to each fitting via a JB, or can I just run the SWA to a JB, then daisy chain each light from there? Hope that makes sense to you - I've drawn diagrams to try and work it out, but it's not helping :_| .

you can daisy chain them together. just some lights only have room for one cable. resin kits will start getting expensive for so many branch joints, and time consuming (an extra 2 ends per light to make off). or you may be able to branch off more than one SWA per resin joint

between lights in raised bed, you may be able to use something else between them, depending on conditions - hi-tuff or something

Is it cheaper to replace the cables ? Are they awkward runs ? Are they under block paving / tarmac ? If so perhaps jointing them is the best option. The corroded section needs to go whichever way . Water can travel quite far by capillary action as stated above.

have you done an insulation res. test on the cable

Yes, Benji - and you so much do NOT want to know the readings.......

Guys (& Nat). Thanks for confirming my suspicions. We`ll replace the lot. p.s. Nigel - you`re a star;).

Nat - What fittings are you thinking of using? do you have a link? The only reason I mentioned cold resin was that I haven`t unearthed the cable ingress to the building. If it`s going to be an issue to get inside, I`ll cut it there, (pray it`s dry), and resin joint it.

Thank you one and all. You may now have a "KME`s Guinness", without having to STEAL it from the fridge whilst I wasn`t here!!!!!!!! :_|

Folks, I'm afraid I'm too green to give advice, but KME's OP mentioned "cold resin". I'm about to embark on a garden installation with some 15+ luminaires! What's the easiest/best way to terminate the SWA before branching off for the fittings?
green?

IMHO you probably need to see a doctor then?

green don't sound at all good to me! :( :|

just going off topic slightly but I remember reading a cable manufacturers catalogue a long time ago and it stated that standard pvc or xlpe swa should not be burried direct as moisture can ingress over a period and that Mswa should be used. Im damned if I can find it now but would be intrested if any of you guys came across it

Bl**dy hell! I hope you're wrong as I've just buried about 10m for a garden supply :| .

KME - not sure which fittings are going to be used, but will be several different types - is that vital to know at this stage? I'm just going to lay the SWA for now.

Found these on TLC... http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/PRABX03.html

These ones only seem to be suitable to terminate the SWA in to. What about the cable provided with the luminaire???

i would repalce it saves arguments later on also i could be cheaper and easyer :D
