    Cables in soil stacks

Yeah, same 'area', ie within the plasterboarded part, but not inside the plastic pipe obviously  :slap

Sometimes you wonder if you are being set up.

I came across something similar to this once (empty socket) but the previous owner had used it as a wall safe  :B-

    No Part P Certificate

Just my tuppence worth, earlier on in the thread it was said that the elderly couple didn't want any paperwork issues (associated with non notification of the plastic CU) to arise if/when they come to sell their house. Seems to me that they could have made an application to their LABC, paid the...

    External Light RCD protection needed?

I haven't looked myself yet, but have the new metal boards got a date stamp inside them? Like the plastic ones had started having over the last few years? I'd assumed that the date stamp inside boards was so that building control could assess under part p some idea of the date of installation...

    Cables in soil stacks

Thanks for your replies. It's my supervisor that is telling us this, and, of course, he doesn't know the Reg no. that it would be under. He's recently done a 3rd amendment course. He is one of those type of people that "if I say it's so, it is so..."  :innocent But he further divulged that it...

    Cables in soil stacks

Hi Guys, I've recently been told that on new builds (building sites) the 3rd amendment 'bans' us from running cables within soil stacks. Anyone else heard of this? On some types of house, with a concrete floor, this is the only route up from the ground floor, where the CU is located. We keep...

When Is Enough, Enough? (Cat Problem)

Thanks all. I started 'scoobing' but reached my quota 'for the day'?? Fancy only being able to say thanks about 4 times lol Cheers all.

When Is Enough, Enough? (Cat Problem)

Thanks for the replies. (What are 'scoobs'? Is it a way of saying 'thank you' for specific replies?) Yes, the vet also said, (he could see that I was upset, didn't think I'd be outwardly upset but...) that I shouldn't torture myself, he's had a good life and I'm only saving him from future pain...

    "off" Dog

My experience with my dog, - if it's worth anything - is that he's asking for help with the attention seeking. Have you checked his ears? Might be obvious but ear infections are easily picked up.

    Bad Dog :/

Yeah, I'm no vet but everything is pointing towards kidney problems. AFAIA, dogs can develop a sort of diabetes as well later on. Blood tests required.

When Is Enough, Enough? (Cat Problem)

Well, yes, part of our dilemma as well. The muscle wastage meant that he couldn't climb fences any more, and so was therefore confined to our house and garden only - the cat flap is at the back.

When Is Enough, Enough? (Cat Problem)

Thanks for the replies. Just thought I'd update. He didn't seem too bad on Monday when I got in from work, - no 'accidents - so just let it go again, as you do. Stroked him and felt him over for lumps later on but nothing obvious. Tuesday however (evening) wasn't good. Puddles of wee on the...

When Is Enough, Enough? (Cat Problem)

Hi. I don't know when enough is enough, I suppose I feel guilty that there doesn't appear to be anything other than 'the final solution'  :_| Our cat, well, this one, we've got two, is about 18 & a half years old, and has gradually, over the last few months, become more and more...

    Upgrading A Recessed Cu

Yeah I spotted that BD, but the DIN rail doesn't need to be altered for that type of change. Busbar is the same as well. I don't have pics of the inside of the recessed board but it's different to a new board. If I use the boards as in my link above, I can put both off peak circuits on their...

    Upgrading A Recessed Cu

Thanks Blue Duck I'll have a look. But realistically I think fitting new boards is going to be cheapest. Screwfix have got small boards for £40 + vat fully loaded.  http://www.screwfix.com/p/bg-6-way-high-integrity-dual-rcd-consumer-unit-6-mcbs/59209# These happen to be almost the perfect...

    Upgrading A Recessed Cu

Hi, a little job I looked at over the weekend, as the title says. Got 2 MEM boards, peak & off peak, recessed into timber studwork internal wall, although wall is an external wall with brickwork outside, house built 1986 ish, 15 th edition install. Wiring ok. Question is, is whether it's...

So Apparently I Am Not Aloud To Find Work As An Electrician.....

? @ Bolton? I meant that if someone signs on - in receipt of benefits or not - then they at least have some 'documentary evidence' to show the tax man that they haven't been working. And if there's no 'documentary evidence', then the tax man could just say that you've been working for cash...

    Downlights In Lath And Plaster

Yeah I gotta agree with the train of thought to just use brand new hole cutters for lathes. They'll still be sharp enough to get some more use in good old plasterboard afterwards. The toolstation ones are only a fiver or so...
