    whatprice.co.uk

I see it all the time around here (Wakefield), landlords and agents around here think 150 is a standard price ( I've also heard of 1 or 2 full re-wires for a grand since last year) they end up with an unsuitable 4 or 6 way board with RCD main switch or no RCD, no tails or main earth upgrade, no...

To do thinks properly and legit, I can't see it being a worthwhile venture part time.

    Box sinker

Where do you get these from? Never seen them. Used scutches all the time when handballing as an apprentice, I loved em! I also have an SDS with flat chisel these days but would defo give one of these a try.

    One of those "whoops" moments.

Re-wiring an old terrace a few years ago that was single skin redbrick between the houses. Found this out when our labourer was chopping out a double socket and told us he'd gone through! I didn't believe him at first but got down and had a look and could see the back of next doors TV and video...

Don't you love how part P works????

Spot on. Its not as easy to build a good reputation as people think, just going by the book won't do because of characters like this customer. Sadly, these are also the type of people who mouth off to anyone in earshot about 'conmen' etc.

    Easytrade quotes?

I think I've mentioned this site on a previous thread. Ive been with them about a year and have had a re-wire out of them as well as an outside light and a 40 quid call out job. I've also quoted for 2 re-wires but didn't get them. Its a decent site, very simply run and easy to use. However, the...

    zs=ze+(R1+R2)

+1 All you are looking for is that your Zs values are low enough. Measured or calculated methods are both acceptable and 99% of the time won't be the same.

electrical wholesaler vs screwfix and toolstation

I was going to start a thread on this because of todays experience but thought I would add to this one instead. I mostly use Electricfix, Toolstation and Newey if I need conduit, basket etc. Today, working in Selby, ran out of earth sleeving and the only place within distance is CEF. I call in...

I'm married and a Leeds fan, so I've just about given up! Next time I'll remember the weather!

    Calculating Ze

Thanks for the replies. My general argument was that the measured Zs and R1 R2 could include parellel return paths, though I've never been great at explaining my point of view. I now have some meatier arguments!

    Calculating Ze

While having a pint and a chat with a friend of mine who is also a sparks, I was told that a friend of his (carrying out tenanted, initial verifications for the council) was not meauring Ze but using the calculation:- Zs - (r1+r2)= Ze. I know that this is not allowed and as I have the NICEIC...

The DB is in place, why didn't he just connect the tails and feed the socket out of the DB????

    day from hell

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the advice, the plumber subbied to me and I quoted for the job as a whole, I've known him a while and he is willing to let his bill go as I paid for materials he hasn't really lost much except a bit of fuel and his time. I've accepted responsibilty for the leak and...

    day from hell

Hello everyone I'm after a bit of advice (and a bit of a moan), yesterday was the day from hell. Having been up all night with my one year old girl (I ended up driving her around at 3am to get her to sleep), I was then woken by the alarm to find I had very painful toothache. These things are...

    Switching problem

Thanks for the advice everyone, managed to talk him into intermediate switch next to his bed, decorating to a high spec so didn't really want PIRs on show, keep it nice and simple! cheers

    Switching problem

Hi Everyone, Just looking for a bit of advice. I am currently wiring a 4 bed new build house and the customer has told me he wants the landing light to turn itself off as his kids are constantly leaving it on. No problem, I thought, I will put it on a time lagged switch, however he has now told...

    does this comply?

So by this reckoning any circuit containing a socket or a spur is suitably protected against overload by fuses in the appliance plugs or FCU's?? If this was a single 2.5mm radial circuit rather than 2 would we protect it like that? because it amounts to the same thing - RCBO gives fault...

    EasyTradeQuotes

I'd go for it, I've just finished my first 3 months with them. 7 out of 10 jobs are timewasters who don't reply but I get around 5 leads a week. I've had a re-wire (quoted on 3), an outside light and a shower which then lead to a PIR. Affordable at the moment but if it takes off will it stay...

    No show customers

Not a problem, will be getting it done over the weekend.

    No show customers

Thats the thing, I don't think a lot of people even think they're doing anything wrong! (although todays customer obviously did otherwise she'd have answered the door!)
