Meter Moving Away From Consumer Unit

The job isn't being done for a few weeks, installation currently is TNCS and I assume they will just terminate the incoming supply back towards where it enters the property and it will be the same earthing arrangement.

Meter Moving Away From Consumer Unit

Steptoe I was going to use a MEM 80amp fused switch in the white box next to the meter. Jono, I was thinking - when you earth steel conduit/ trunking/ tray / swa etc  it's covered by an rcd so if it was to become live somehow the rcd trips and problem solved but if the conductors within it are...

Meter Moving Away From Consumer Unit

Thanks for the comments, a buddy can get me some lengths of steel plate so probably going to do it that way. Just out of curiosity, why does the cover need to be earthed ?  I assume the earthing is going to the fuseboard and would trip an RCD but the tails would still be live as they are on...

Meter Moving Away From Consumer Unit

Thanks guy, just wanted confirmation. Nozspark, lots of people keep on about 25mm swa as the armoured cable alternative, I guess they may have been considering heavy ish loading ? Just need to see if a 16mm t&e and a 10mm earth will fit in a 32mm steel conduit :-) batty, I agree with the...

Power Feed For A New Pir Light From An Emergency Light

Thanks for your inputs guys. I was thinking along the lines of not having a means of turning on or off the PIR light, but guess you're right, keep it simple and cheap. Thanks

Power Feed For A New Pir Light From An Emergency Light

Hi guys, I have a question. I generally do domestic work but have been asked to quote on a commercial job. They wanted a PIR light outside on a wall so I quoted for chasing a fused spur along side an existing double socket inside and then I was going to drill straight out and up the wall in...

    Home made 2391 test rig

Sat my 2391 written exam last week and found it easier than I expected. Having said that I have to wait 6 weeks to find out if I've past it. As I don't get to do much testing in the work place, I decided to build a test rig to practice on before my practical exam and to help familiarise myself...

2391 Test Rig - Lighting wired in singles or twin & earth ?

Hi Sparkyjohnny, the reason I enrolled on the 2391 course was that last year when they said they were changing the course, they said they would be bringing out 3 easier courses which combined would equal the 2391. This meant x3 written exams and x3 practical exams and obviously lots more money...

2391 Test Rig - Lighting wired in singles or twin & earth ?

Thanks for replies, Theoryspark - As I understand the testing is only different with the 2 way and the strappers being that instead of 4 tests ( 2 at end switch & 2 at ceiling rose because of changing the switch positions ) with the t&E, the singles is only 2 tests. Just wanted to...

2391 Test Rig - Lighting wired in singles or twin & earth ?

Thanks Theoryspark, but what I want to know is if the 'actual' 2391 test rig lighting is in t&e or singles because I've been told by one person it's T&E and someone else it's singles ?? It's just the testing is slightly different.

2391 Test Rig - Lighting wired in singles or twin & earth ?

Hi Guys, I am currently studying at night school for my 2391 and as I haven't done a great deal of testing to date, I've decided to build a full test rig as close as possible to what I'll be testing in the practical exam. I built one years ago for my AM2 and found it very useful for...

    Emergency Lighting Problem

Yes all 3 together which is the odd thing, if it was just one or two then I'd say wired wrong or maybe faulty light. The customer says it is completely random, one morning they came in and the emergency lights were on and another time they came on in the day ?

    Emergency Lighting Problem

OSWALD Good thinking but wouldn't that only effect the light which had been wired into a switch live and not all 3 lights, unless I managed to pick up 3 switch lives !!! Worth a look ? I just need a handle of ideas that I can work through on next visit so thankyo for suggestion. ANDY...

    Emergency Lighting Problem

Hi Guys, Got a problem with some emergency lights I installed. They are individually wired at different points into the only lighting circuit. I've fitted a keyswitch which is wired directly from the lighting circuit (old bakelite rewireable fuse type) and then the existing circuit comes out...

Wiring an Induction Hob and twin ovens

hi LOSTIT, <50mm rule ??? also didn't really think about the isolator switch, which obviously would have to be 50a and probably not available in the style they want !! Pain in the arse, so looking like 40a mcb with 6mm on own radial via a 40a / 45a isolation switch. BATTY, so you'd put...
