    pricing for jobs.

maybe if electricity would leak all over the house like water when something goes wrong people would be happy to pay. Tearing down their wall paper and making ceilings fall down! mwah ha ha ha!!

    pricing for jobs.

At least you only priced over phone. worst ones are where you go to price something, maybe give a rough price there and then and the person actually gets offended at the price, ushering you out the house. Thats exactly what I'd charge. Frustrates me so much when people think you take home

    Theory against real world

well on this one you'd have to use common sense. You dont always have to do what a calc says. You have to make judgements yourself, course you'd have a leg to stand on! You have to use common sense with theory. Its not theory against real world, Its theory WITH real world :-)

    Theory against real world

I can honestly say if a domestic customer rang me for a quote to put some lights, sockets and a heater in their garage 5metres from their house its VERY unlikely I'd quote for a 25mm SWA 3core. Sure they wouldnt be too happy with it clipped to their external wall for the other 5 metres. How...

    Suggestions

Bad times at the moment! Im on and off, got about a months work lined up at moment which is probably the most secure ive been so far this year. Ive decided I'm gonna go down under for a year or so after summer, let this work drout sort itself out. Rather than sending out loads of letters I...

    plastering

i also do alot of my own plastering, sometimes just a bonding coat sometimes a full skim. I would defo agree theres no need for a course if you just doing chases. One thing that does put me of is that it can be so messy. I generally do the same as above but use a spray bottle (old kitchen spray...

Failed D.E.I.P.I.R. (for a single dwelling)

i find it slighlty amusing that on the second PIR (which should be a DIC) for any details regarding a previous inspection, this person has seemed to forget about the inspection he must have done a week/month prior and just put 'no' in all the boxes

    extracted fans and gas flue

Does that rule out a cooker hood in a kitchen where a boiler is also in the kitchen then, surely not? There must be some reg, ie over certain m3 is okay? Just looked through Part F but cant find owt

Light mates,,, invaluable or un-necessary expense

They are great! I cant believe i would ever drop down class 1 fittings and wrestle with those crappy little grub screws. Some situations there essential, impossible to drop fitting, no way to long lead... Lightmate! (sound like a salesman)

    Service Magic

Think there all the same mate. Avoid em like the plague! Not worth the money, they praying on people not being busy and legally conning them. Better ways to find work.

Failed D.E.I.P.I.R. (for a single dwelling)

+1 Thats definately something Im learning to do more and more. Details on Periodics, not only to cover yourself, but can make things more clear for cust. PIR's can really look like jargon to the untrained. Most the time I send out a cover letter too. Helps people understand and sets you up to...

Some one needs a slap...(Venting Time)

Zee, I had my first assessment with Napit about a year and a half ago, not too far from you. I was living in Sheffield at the time. I did a rewire for a friends parents in Gleadless. I didn't notify anything, simply spoke to the assessor who'll probably be the same for your area. he said to...

    PIR codes?

i did code the N-E fault a 2 (did say in OP) I put the no earth on lights as a code 4. Your right about no RCD, normally I would code this a 2 if any exposed metal, screws etc. There was no exposed metal at all, all switches were on plastic backboxes so even screws weren't exposed.
