Mum found dead With son aged 2 hugging body after being electrocuted by hedge trimmer

very very sad indeed, goes to show that you shouldn't mess with things you don't understand. i just hope that others learn from this horrible lesson :(

    Sky & Free sat

nope, the decoder has to control something in the LNB as far as i know which is why you need extra "channels" in the LNB. basically split cables don't work.

    Sky & Free sat

^ HD uses the same cables as SD, its only the recording that requires two, sort of. you don't actually need two cables to be able to record, what you need two cables for is so you can record one channel and watch another, my parents have SkyHD with only one cable and its works fine as long as...

    immer fault

i'd like to point out that i learnt to do immersions working for the council so:- 1) it wasn't my house 2) it wasn't my money if it went wrong 3) if it did go wrong i could call on a plumber right away a huge safety net!

    Sky & Free sat

yeah it'll work fine, its not a "sky" dish as such, its just a satellite dish that sky supplied.

    immer fault

^+1 if your doing it please crack the seal on the element before draining the water otherwise you run a much higher risk of damaging the tank. i personally prefer the long bar type immersion spanner that you can apply steady pressure too rather than the little ones that you hammer.

    Funny looking BS88 fuse

why is this a horror out of interest? if its correctly rated fuse wire then surely it will do the same job as fuse wire in a glass case.

cable run outside mini-trunking using T&E

MICC will be the neatest and cleanest way of doing it by a long long way, tiny cable compared to any of the alternatives and not to mention if you get bare it will weather and go dark in colour. you also need to be honest and upfront about the work already done by the builder needing to checked...

    Warning to trades

    Interesting bit of DIY

we used contactum for years but we never had mcb's with differently coloured switches, looks like it makes identifying mcb's easier at a glance.

    SWA termination

thanks for that Andy, but one thing i will say is i have never seen or used a connection like that before! when people were saying about using jubilee clips to terminate SWA's there was no mention of a suitable enclosure that was actually designed to be used this way, i actually had an image of...

    Cats tail issue

    could it be broken?

    Lighting spur from socket circuit

no, as it cannot have the correctly rated fuse on it.

    Mains or extra-low voltage downlighters?

mains every time for me unless it has to be 12v as i hate the things, more expensive to buy, more expensive to run, more awkward to install, more to go wrong and if running multiple lights from one transformer then every cable has to be the same length otherwise you get variations in brightness...

    SWA termination

i find mikalor clamps to be far superior to jubilee clips on cars, still not 100% convinced on the use of jubilee clips, not sure what else could be done though in some situations.

    SWA termination

a jubilee clip? doesn't sound very professional to me, but we learn something new everyday.

    SWA termination

gland packs are the only way really unless your going to bodge it.

    Interesting bit of DIY

oh yeah, the rating of the fuse will have no affect on the size of the bang will it?
