    Hi sparkatus, If the element has blown and you do a continuity check, then you would get no return. You could also do a tong test to see if the appliance is taking the correct load. If for example the element is 2000w and you do a continuity check, a healthy element would be around 26.45 ohms...

In the flat there was no bonding to incoming water pipe, so bonded it myself. Quite close to consummer unit so quite convenient. On another note though...

    Thanks for the replies so far, Was gonna check if it was 0.05ohms between flat met and water pipe, but still was unsure if i should run one anyway. belts and braces. I guess i will decide once i get there, just trying to cover all areas before i turn up on sat.

    If the fuse blows in the plugtop then the appliance will be disconnected from the supply. But if the appliance has an internal fuse and this blows, then the load side, which is intended to be disconnected in the event of a fault is still live as the supply is coming from the other direction...

    You can test circuit with the appliance connected and switched on, "Dead test" and disconected from the db. Like m4tty said short the line and neutral together and test to earth. Its the same princible as portable appliance testing, the pat machine shorts out L + N together and tests to earth...
