you might be right sidewinder, i missed the capacitor bit, but usually if a dual voltage motor that shows around 220-240v on its name plate, it doesn't mean can be supplied by single phase.

the dual voltage name plate relates to the external delta or star connection, 230 delta 400 star. it DOES NOT mean you can connect it to a single phase supply. wire it as a 400v DOL star connected circuit.

i'm guessing its already been safely isolated also meters would have been checked before the first test and loads already disconnected. think the question is slightly ambiguous anyway IMHO
