Hi all, I'm after some helpful advice on protection against overvoltage of atmospheric origin ( AKA lightning ).

In the regs it mentions the Uimp of electrical equipment, but how for down the supply line? is it just the main fuses or main MCCB.

This is regarding a small industrial factory premises with a TN-S-C 400A supply, and just in terms of electrical equipment and not building protection.

Many thanks for any help.

Hi There,,

It also mentions in the regs that protection against "overvoltage of atmospheric origin" is not required in the UK, [not enough lightning] Less than 12 or 25 a year or something?? cannot remember.. Anyway, if you want to incorporate it, then that it is up to you, but there is nothing in the regs that requires it.

john...

Thanks for the replies, it seems that the regs is only concerned with surge protection as lightning protection comes under BS EN 62305, which leads me off one path and on to another.
