    Roads

I live there/here, and long trip up the m5/m6 tomorrow unfortunately!

    Relay\Contactor

I may well be wrong but I believe the latest meters can 'switch' the whole installation, i.e just records the kWh for each tariff. So presuming you have 2 fuseboards, you can just have both coming off the same tails.

    Tunnel

Ok, 2 way switches - On the first switch perm L to common, L1 nothing (off), L2 to common of next switch All other switches, common is live in from previous L2, L1 to light, L2 to next common?

    generator query

My uncle was talking about this last time I was over there, Genny charging a stack of forklift batteries (think they are 2v each, probably wrong) for say 8 hours per day, with the exhaust routed through a water tank like an element, to sort out the hot water and heating for the house. Guess...

    Highways Agency sucks

Sad thing is, look at the vacancies page and the pay is the same if not more than many advertised electrician jobs. Then again, some GCSEs and 6 months experience with customers are pretty high requirements.

    Silly Question about windscreen wipers

What age golf is that? With a certain relay (definitely works on mk2 and mk3 golfs, maybe mk1) the time is adjustable

    Did you know......

If a boob is a 'red' rather than 'green' then yes I am! Apache, when you said 'I noticed that too' - that implies to me that you don't own this forum, obviously not been here long but thought you did for some reason!?

    Did you know......

; )Now I wonder who the first boob would be awarded to...

    snowed off....

In most cases I would say its better, 4wd only when you need it, 2wd economy when you don't. The 1.8T engine ain't too bad either is it ;)

    snowed off....

Yes rain tyres won't be great in snow, but M+S in rain will be perfectly fine. Fact is they are OEM supplied on many vehicles, they know better than us.

    Did I say snow tyres?

    snowed off....

Had a Ford Ranger 4wd with normal road tyres last year for the snow, it would do full throttle standard starts up hills with only slight wheelspin, BUT it weighs close to 2 tons, and therefore does not want to stop again once its going! I'm a firm believer that we should be forced to have...

Would you do it all over again?

I suppose as the OP I should answer my own question! In the idea that whatever job you do you will hate it (apart from the very very lucky few), I would say I would have gone into gas fitting instead. I'm still thinking all the time I should go out and just do as well as this. Out of interest...

How long ago did you do the course Marc? Were you local enough to go the evening practical class?

    Installing spotlights.

Metal capping really just to keep it in place, bit of a downside compared to drilling the joist (which I would always do in preference to notching where possible). Easier to blame to plasterer for the visibility though!

    Installing spotlights.

notches are an acceptable form though according to the book, and say a 10mm deep notch doesn't reduce joist strength as much as a 20mm hole. I always cover the notch though with metal capping bent over. Holds the cable in place, and to be fair there is no risk of a DIYer nailing into the...

    Installing spotlights.

Only real way is by butchering the ceiling, cut out your intended holes, then use your cable roads to find the nearest joist, then cut out the board underneath it. If huge holes are ok, then drill the joist, if only small then notch it. use the largest holesaw you have and cut out your route...

Would you do it all over again?

Sort of following on from the post below about is it worth going self employed. Say you were 16 again, or whenever you started, and you knew what you did now, would you still go into this trade?

    Make me a sparky!

Should mention too, the coursework means nothing to the final grade I believe (I could be wrong), its just the practical and some multiple choice on-line tests that count. The course was about
