    Differences between schemes?

Hi all. I've been strolling through the forum and through the websites and have been struggling to work out which would be the best scheme to join and was hoping someone could point out the differences. I have been looking at NAPIT mainly, purely as it was the first website I looked at and it...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

Competency is a mixture of qualification and experience. If I had the experience I wouldn't of asked the questions, so I would agree. However, to gain experience you must do the work. I have never had experience on a job such as this, hence why I have asked for pointers. I will not do work...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

Running in line with the door frame is a light switch and an FCU which would bring that into the zone. That then runs into the bathroom as described above. I suppose I could keep the run through the living room then under the floor to a more suitable run through the 1st floor bedroom to the 2nd...

    Silly Electrician thing !

Not that I know off, but after the amount of times I've being asked that I'm starting to wonder if my dad will ever get back with that bottle of milk...

    Silly Electrician thing !

The theory is different though. An RCD should disconnect with an earth fault, a busbar shouldn't lol. My luck would mean I'd have a faulty RCD, hence why I wont try it.

    Silly Electrician thing !

I have had a strange urge to touch a live on an RCD board to see how much it hurts before the RCD trips. I know the theory says i'd be fine but common sense is keeping me away.

Problem of the week, too many wires in a socket.

In a situation like this would you put various options to the customer or just carry out the cheapest and advise the customer what needed doing?

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

It was the thermal resistivity that threw me with method 57. Is there anywhere with reference tables to common thermal properties for me to use next time? The cables run in a void between the door casing and the wall, behind architrave. I think the only way to get around the RCD protecting...

******... too busy thinking about cable runs, installation methods and volt drops and forgot about permitted zones. What is the 'done' thing about running cables from 1 floor to another? At present it would run vertical with the light switch on the ground floor so no problem, but then it goes...

Problem of the week, too many wires in a socket.

Is the FCU the only way of isolating the PIR or is there a dedicated switch after the FCU? For practicality I would personally (if in my own home) of wanted to have a seperate switch for both the hood and PIR. Possibly extend the ring to go - socket - FCU to cooker hood - FCU to PIR -...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

I would of split it up into different posts but didn't want to forget anything. I have been going over the regs book with reference to instalation methods but cannot find any mention of plaster over clipped direct, or anything that matches that description. Reference method C looks the closest...

Finally managed to get online again to have a more detailed look into your points. It is also the first time of trying to do an 'advanced reply' on the forum so I apologize if this comes out a large pile of code. I have applied for a copy to be sent out to me for a look. I have returned the...

Ring is sounding a better idea now you've got me thinking a bit more about it. Would you put 1st floor on the ring aswell as I planned to do with the radial or run that as a seperate radial? I did the c&g 2330 level 2 and 3, which I feel has taught me a lot, however I know experience means...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

My concern with a 32a ring with 60a supply is that if the shower is on pulling 33a and ring is at near max then the main fuse will go, where as on a radial it would trip the mcb instead. The kitchen has washer, fridge freezer and usual toaster, kettle and microwave. The cooker is all gas which I...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

I will have a proper read of reply's when I get home from work as the first post took ages on my phone (android app won't work). I chose 1.5 as I can use it for my fused spurs to washer, fridge and boiler. BOiler is a combination boiler on ground floor. ccu is in kitchen. DIdn't want to use ring...

    first domestic rewire, opinions please.

Hi all. Having recently finished my course at night school, 2 weeks later the wiring in a house I let out had issues.(water pipe for washing machine dripping onto a socket) so I have decided its time to do a complete rewire.(I got poor IR readings when I did my tests). I will list my plan and...
