Looking to train as a Domestic Electrical Installer with OLCI

as said above, if you don't have the relevant experience before hand then you will struggle a bit. I had like most the practical knowledge and experience pre 2001 as i did a lot of electrical work and worked in electronics industry etc. I then setup in business with a takeaway shop but on the...

    Advice needed

exactly my question in post number 5. If it's a TT system then it SHOULD have a 100mA upfront RCD (good practice) NOT a 30mA! As said, as it's commercial I would ditch the upfront RCD in favour of a BS EN 60947-3 100A DP isolator and replace the mcb's for rcbo's for the applicable circuits.

    Advice needed

what earthing arrangement is it ie: TT with a 100mA RCD upfront ? How many servers are running and how many PC's etc etc? As you've said, I'd be tempted to replace the mcb's with rcbo's for the IT circuits aslong as they don't have more than 6 PC's on each circuit. Are the circuits solely...

    cowboy program makers

did you not see last nights cowboy builders on ch5? They practically rebuilt a whole extension, windows, electrics, plumbing, new kitchen, new stairs, new bedroom etc etc all decorated and finished within 2 weeks!!! What a Joke. Without a project manager and a CPN, all them trades...

    Shower Circuit

Customers sometimes hack me right off! As said above CCC for 6mm......NEVER put on a 45A breaker and unless its a really short run, never a 40A either as anything above 225v will give you in excess of 40A. I always advise customers that want new build extensions etc with new kitchen circuits...

Rules for RCDS/RCBO's in a domestic installation

I would totally agree with you Steps in normal circumstances ie: A normal house with owner occupier etc I would give it a code 4 but a rental I would deffo code 2 it. oh and PS: LOL @ your Avatar!! I've just scanned it.

Rules for RCDS/RCBO's in a domestic installation

here's an example for you guys then. Whilst testing these student lets I found that the interlinked smoke alarms that had been fitted by an alarm company into all the bedrooms and communal areas had no cpc continuity as they had been cut out! Now obviously I failed this for the numerous...

Rules for RCDS/RCBO's in a domestic installation

take into account that if the report has been instructed by a letting agent or an insurance company also that as it's a rental then they may have clauses requiring RCD protection for the buy to let, insurance etc etc. I've just done 7 student lets and the clauses in them were rediculous

Thermtec 2.75/3kw domestic Immersion heater thermostat size?

you cannot fit them without the cutouts now, as from 2004 it became regulation to have the safety cutouts on them. Looks like i'm doing 2 trips or buying 6 thermostats and 1 trip....DOH! I hate letting agents, they're useless!! ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 14:22 ---------- Previous post...

Thermtec 2.75/3kw domestic Immersion heater thermostat size?

i've been asked to go and replace two of these but i've recieved no more info. Just wondering if any of you guys would know of the bat? 7, 11 or 18" ? Failing that i'll have to go take one out but it's an after hours job which would mean dragging it out over 2 days/ nights with the miles in...

    rcd circuit - fire alarms

thats why I put them on an RCBO. Nothing else within the installation will trip the safety circuit as they are completely seperate.

    rcd circuit - fire alarms

To be honest, if possible I tend to not put them on the same RCD with sockets etc as the OSG etc reccomends Smoke alarm circuits etc are to be segregated from other circuits. Its best to put them on there own within the DB after the main switch but before any RCD's and change the MCB for an...

Opinions needed please re: PIR i've just done

Update, went back today and basically stripped out the DB as it was wired soooo messy you couldn't see what the supply cable was originally and as some of you guys said, it is deffo split con cable. Not the best setup but NAPIT technical advised that it was OK but just make an observation on...

Thats the problem I have too, struggling for a reason why to fail it! Can't just say because I don't like it as the landlord will drop me as his spark etc so need to do the right thing but be seen to be helping him out too if you know what I mean. Thats why I've contacted NAPIT as then if...
