    Fluorescent Lighting Issues

2.3 kw will only give you a running current of 10 amps but if the MCB is buzzing I would just first of all replace it for a new one aswell as replacing the length of 1.5 and remove the crimped joint. Flourescants have start up currents to think of also but if this hasn't been a problem in the...

    PME on an earth cable?

some peoples attitude on this site stinks. I for one have been on the sticky end of the stick and have stopped posting as much as I used to because of it! If I have a problem now I contact NAPIT technical as they help me out without sarcasm.

    Assessment time again

if we use the Adiabatic equation then for the installation to get the required calculated size of the bonding conductor: equation is S= (square root)I2t/k V=IxR to get the PFC 230v = ? x 0.8ohms (for TNS - assumed although it could be less thus increasing the possible fault current) 230/0.8...

    Testers

it is the only thing that bugs me about the megger is the no trip function and how long it takes.

    Assessment time again

How big are the tails? MEC needs to be equal to or half the CSA of the Tails so 25mm tails would require 12.5mm MEC which as we know we cant get so 10mm is too small hence we use 16mm. If your tails are 16mm then a 10mm MEC will be sufficient and as Andy has said, 6mm then complies.

    16mm2 tails with 60a fuse

the seal fairy! LOL When you say under the garage floor too, do you mean they've been sunk under the concrete? If so I'd put a note on your cert after you've fitted the CU as to the limitation of whether the tails have been buried in a conduit to protect them against damage and to an unknown...

    After 2330 level 3

deffo the 2382 17th Edition full 60 question or the 30 question brush up course and exam, then maybe the EAL building regs including Part P and then your 2391 Insp & test. Possibly also the NVQ 3 if you want to be employed on a building site etc and want to be classed as an electrician by...

    Testers

the Megger I use, once you null the leads it will last for aslong as your conducting the testing. Next time i'll need to do it will probably be next day.

    Testers

Megger MFT1553BT for me. I also use a Fluke now and again too. The Fluke is a lot faster performing the tests but the Megger is more user friendly imo.

Had no problems with my NAPIT assessment, very nice guy, plenty of questions and scenarios answered and he gave me plenty of good advice too. His name was Martin Yorke.

    No Ze

Yes, its under the floor which I installed a sort of trap door etc as the street it's in is terraced which leads straight out into the street. There is no way an enclosure outside would be possible as they are quite large and involve a fair bit of excavation work to install them and I don't...

    No Ze

DNO's do not give a toss tbh. I was called out to a job where an "electrician" had rewired a house before the DNO had come to install a new supply. They installed a single phase 2 wire + a 2 pole 60947-3 isolator then put a notice on the head that said NO EARTH. Said "electrician" came out to...

Smoke alarm system for 3 storey flats?

I totally agree with what you guys have said and I may suggest that each flat have a sounder from the communal alarm as the plans do state fire doors. thanks.
