Some of you seem to want to discuss electrical stuff and offer helpful advise. A question to thoes people, is it just me, or do you think there are some people who come in here just  to troll others?

If you think Ze confirms polarity you need locking up

It was noted the RCD did not trip, there would have been a leakage current from line to earth, if greater than 30mA, the RCD should have tripped. I dont think necessarily the MCB would trip, this would depend upon the resistance between the bridge the nail was making and the value of Zs

Why is this so hard? You are all experienced electricians. We had a potential difference between neutral and earth, the thinking was the nail had cut through the installation of the line and was making a connection between line and earth, making the earth live

My attitude is a response, I am being attacked, I am responding to vicious, insulting attacks. I am not the one initiating the insults. We were not commissioning the installation we were fault finding.

It was not a nail driven through a cable and we would have found it in 5 minutes if it was. What is your point? Your comment is very insulting and not helpful at all Polarity at the distributor's  isolation switch

You are very opinionated, the electricians I worked with are not incompetent.  We didnt do the rewiring, as you rightly pointed out, polarity along with all the other tests should have been carried out before the board was energised, this would lead an intelligent person to assume something...

Well we didnt get there till quite late in the day, we ran out of time, the two electricians started investigating the ring mains 1st, maybe an error on their behalf, they found a fault in the ring mains. It was a case of more than one fault.  I guess from their experience they knew what that...

Line to earth was 0V

Well it was not actually a MET. Main earth came from distributors fuse box to a terminal, from terminal to consumer unit. There was continuity from that terminal to the consumer unit, I will do a Ze test tomorrow to be sure, thank you
