So...anybody else tried this new way of Testing RCDs from NICEIC?:slap

The labels are wrong? R1 and then R1+R2? Shouldn't they be labelled as the trip time at I(delta)n and then the second one at 5I(delta)n? If that's the case, then the unit (ms) that others have posted about is actually correct.

    Tanning room electrics

I think photographs of the installation in use might help the forum arrive at a conclusion on the matter.

Twin Immersion Boiler Stopped Working :(

Awww man, why've you guys just let me spend £500 on an MFT when the FCU neon is all anyone ever needs. This place is really starting to get my back up, do you guys know anything about electrics?!  :slap Also, and this just might be me, but if both immersions went off at exactly the same time...

Home Electrics Diy Competence -Vs- Need Qualified Electrician.

"The guy" is my brother, as I said. He's actually admitted the reason he chose this company is because they could do the work sooner and was willing to pay more for that. As for vulnerable, I agree to that extent, but there's not many that can't fall on someone to help them decide. My gran has...

Home Electrics Diy Competence -Vs- Need Qualified Electrician.

Possibly a little bit off topic, but the subject of incompetent electrician's has raised its head so I'll throw this in the mix. I agree that a better system to police electrical tradesmen should be in place, and the posts also calling for certain stipulations such as insurances etc. But I'm...

    Adding Spurs

What if the whole circuit is a radial and this socket is the end of the line? Unlikely, but I'm with Lurch - too little info.

    What's The Trouble Here?

Think I've just spotted what the OP may have been on about (as well as everything else mentioned). The earth cable from the CU to the henley block looks loose. I've arrived at this conclusion because the top left screw looks flat to the block (so surely no cable secured underneath otherwise it...

    What's The Trouble Here?

Go easy on me, I'm just a trainee - but no supply, I can see a substantial gap to the fuse entry (fairly easy to touch by accident with an earth cable?), and generally it looks as pretty as a cats ring piece. The supply to the DB is smaller cable than from the head, so assuming it goes to some...

Just Moved And Learned What A Tt Earth Is, Some Questions!

Really? Pretty sure OP is correct and you can still use plastic consumer units provided they are installed in a suitable non-combustible enclosure. EDIT: Yep, OP is correct, confirmation from the IET

Anyone Got These Advertising Screens On Local Motorway?

The first time I drove past that one on the A167 I was gobsmacked. It's on a busy part of the road which has a bit of a sod of a junction/slip road. Surprised there hasn't been an increase in accidents due to it.

It Was Fine Before You Came Here!

Did you think for a split second that it actually could have been you as well? I can picture it, similar scenarios happened to me on a few occasions. "But I haven't done...... wait, a minute, could it be?"
