    New circuit for Utility room.

A moot point re who is responsible - if you fit a spur/isolater for a fan with fan to be fitted later then it could be argued that you being the professional should advise the client re Regs requirements/ if you fit a fan to existing fan that did not meet regs then likewise it could be argued...

    Square D MCB

Anyone got an old Square D 32A MCB to fit a "Quickline II Universal" CU, lying around doing nothing? I believe its designation is QO132EB6 Desperatly needed - can return in twelve months!!! (Spent hours on the phone todayheadbang)

Is it a metal cutout - Western Power in this area change them for free!!! at the same time they will provide PME if available, worth asking your DNO if it is metal (The head, not the DNO!!)

    which test equipment is best

Megger 1552 and will upgrade to the new Megger if more 3P work comes in. Great kit, never had a problem. Like all MFT's - tends to chomp through batts if used extensively. Colours - yep I like them as its very easy to see where you are on the instrument - espiecially when in tight corners...

    Roller Shutter Door

This may by a silly observation - but if the roller firm are electricians then why are you having to install the 3P+N skt. if not you need to make sure there is undervoltage protection, either via a contactor or by a hold to operate switch to prevent auto restart in case of power interruption...

    17th

We do agree on many points - I think as a generalisation one should do a course then an exam but maintain that the 17th is not a skills based course by any stretch of the imagination. Ther C&G are not the arbiters of whether you have to take a course or not although they mayset a rule that...

    17th

Yeah all poiints noted, but I think even C&G would accept that this is not a course as 'the man on the Clapham Omnibus' would envisage one to be! The exam is a test to see if you can look up facts and find answers. There is no requirement for understanding or interpretation in the exam, the...

Sidewinder - there is a course - it comprises of the lecturer explaining the layout, differing ways of looking up and throwing lots of exam type Qs at you - nothing you cant do alone. It is not a course to check any knowledge as such niether does it offer any interpretation. I didn't consider it...

Testing Ze for a new consumer unit in a garage

I get your point about a design issue - on the curves a short cct - giving max fault current - would trip the MCB, dont forget this is a pir scenario something may have changed between initial design and install and the intervening years. It is still the last competent persons responsibility -...

Testing Ze for a new consumer unit in a garage

ADS - I am afraid you are the one missing the point, it is precisely because the garage is part of the installation, no mention of seperating by abandoning the TNC-s at the house and TTing the garage. The poster implied that it was indeed part of the house, thus TNC-s - then missing neutrals...

    17th

No you do not need it, but it would be a great advantage if you did or have a good understanding of it, the 17th exam is multi choice on compter, if you get a few past papers and know your way around BRB, I would advise not to do course - do exam only and spend the money elsewhere on your...

Testing Ze for a new consumer unit in a garage

Ok back to this after some research. 1. There is nothing in OSG/GN3 or BRB re Zdb 2. I asked 12 electricians if they understood the term Zdb - all did, most would cross out Ze and inserted Zdb on schedule of test results for that DB 3. You can of course measure (r1+r2) and add to Ze for Zs of...
