How long do 2D lamps last

Like Steps said, ive had a couple of dodgy batches. It does seem strange that sometimes a 2D lamp lasts years and another will last a couple of months. Always found that those that are switched more often seem to go quicker The communal lighting where I live is on 24/7 and I dont recall any...

    Do CEF stock Proteus

Thats the reason I'm replacing it. Fire risk. Its crackling like mad when energised. All external connections tight. GS

    Bathroom Works

    1. If you where just replacing the fan, then I believe as it is "like for like" it would not need to be RCD protected. However if you are adding an isolator then you are modifying the circuit. Therefore i believe you would have to RCD protect the circuit. 2. Depends on the size of the mat...

    Do CEF stock Proteus

Haha. Was waiting for that. LOL. Looking back it does seem a stupid question to ask. I live in the middle of nowhere so never used CEF and never fitted Proteus Kit. I get most of my kit online and from local wholesallers. Thank god by the looks of it. Looks like cheap carp. Cheers GS

Local spark to me has been done for.

Quote from a "news" email I recieved today from the NIC. "NICEIC has vowed to continue its clampdown on rogue traders after another electrician was found guilty of falsely claiming to be NICEIC registered. Newbury based Gary Crossman, who trades under the name of G C Electrical, was fined

    Just got the Di-Log

Ok. I appreciate the fact that it may be "so simple to use, its laughable" to some. I am only looking for a few pointers, as I have never used a clamp meter before. The 5 day courses probably do not teach such useful fault finding techinques. Lucky I am not a "5 day wonder" then isn't it?

    Just got the Di-Log

Tried it on the 40A range. Kettle on, still nothing. Tried the clamp both ways. The only reading I can get is when it is on the 30mA range and around both L & N conductors. (0.27mA) Cheers guys

    Just got the Di-Log

Cheers. Instructions don't really mention much about "current measurements", but then again they are probably aimed towards somebody who actually knows how to use a clamp meter. Just clamped mine around the the "live tail" feeding our place as a test, on the 100A range. 0.00A is what I get...

    Just got the Di-Log

Morning all. After reading the excellent reviews of leakage clamp meters on here, I decided to buy one. Went for the Di-Log in the end. Mainly due to price. Ive never used a clamp meter before so bear with me. Right if I wanted to measure the earth leakage on a domestic installation would it...

    CCTV recommendations

Morning all. A client requires a CCTV system (only 2 camera) but does not need a recording feature, basically the 2 cameras are for observation. Can anybody recommend an LCD monitor, 2 cameras, a switch and some sort of PSU for the cameras? Cheers GS

    Sauna problems

True. There are different types of saunas. One of them been Infra red. I'll be honest, I don't know much about them. Only what I've Googled. Does anybody know where I can get a 300w IR ceramic tubular heating element as shown in the picture. Cant seem to find anywhere that sells them! GS

    Sauna problems

Good evening all. Attended a job earlier today following reports of an infrared sauna tripping the main 30mA RCD. First of all I tested the RCD trip times & ramp tested (all fine) Now powered up Sauna, trips once power is sent to the IR elements/lamps. Located the control box. Each pair...
