    Things I Don't Like

Inconsistent bosses! Took on the office and reprimanded for putting a zip tie over a light fitting on an asbestos ceiling, then 6 weeks later, moaned at for not disconnecting said lights for removal by asbestos contractor. Sorry rant over.

    Vga Splitters/transmitters

I will thanks, no one at work has any intention of getting involved. It's so frustrating. I think they are wanting a simple it's beyond repair and want a new system. However, no one is prepared to pay for it. This was someone else's issue until they left, now I pick up their role along with...

    Vga Splitters/transmitters

Thanks sidey, must be going blind and stupid, that's very similar. The units I have are not marked as avp though. Also the supply for mine is 12 v not 5 as in the one you show. So I'm guessing it's the next version of mine. Mine is apparently 8+ years old.

    Vga Splitters/transmitters

Evening, I've inherited a strange one that I know nothing about, great start! Main conference room in the company I work for has a PC connected to a "SY electronics CatX Tx8" which as far as I can tell... converts the VGA signal from the PC to data and splits it onto 8 data cables.  That in...

    Data Cable Tester

I'm looking for a data cable tester for occasional use. We've got the all singing and dancing fluke network testers, but they're a bit much for testing, say, a damaged point. I had a Screwfix cheapy but it passed away. The one the boss bought in, is even worse and didn't work out of the box...

    Swa Through A Wall...

We've done the same with 3 core 25mm, drilled up from outside at 45 ish degrees, cable follows inside and outside quite nice. We even got the steel capping on without any problem.

    Gsm Dialler

The kit was something like £1500, but I don't get to know that sort of thing, just happened to have the bill in the file I got.

No it's not on asdl, it's on a vodaphone SIM card mobile Dialer. It responds to you pressing the acknowledge code by a long beep then you can enter remote operation if you enter another code, so it's hearing and understanding what you send it. But then it ring you back again. And again. And...

    Toroidal Halogen Chandelier Wiring

The unlooped blue on the right looks to be connected to the plate like the black, not actually insulated from it.

    Security Bits

I must admit I've never come across a vandal dismantle something, smash it yes, but take apart - no. Maybe I've led a sheltered life.

    Plug Testers

Basically we were doing remedial a after pir, socket flagged as high Earth loop. Circuit Id was wrong so listening for the beep to stop. Just thought this shows, very clearly, that they are not testers

    Plug Testers

Sorry I meant there is nothing wrong with the double socket it's self. There was a problem. Testing with trip lock off gave >1999 if memory serves. It was a while ago. Was just highlighting the limitation of plug tester.

    Security Bits

It was and we did, but they sent the same bit we had, which is just too weak for corroded in bolts. We managed, just a pain. New fittings are tamper proof Torx.

    Plug Testers

There was nothing wrong with the socket, just the plug tester shows its ok where the multifunction show not so good... Conduit earth, with a fault somewhere in the concrete.

    Security Bits

Yes, he should, no he's not. However I have discovered that if this type of security bolt is stuck, the "snake eye bit" tend to just snap off.  BUT... I found most of the time tapping them round with a centre punch and hammer is enough to break the seal and then let you get the bolt out with...
