    R I P Ronnie Corbett

I never found him that funny TBH. His monologues were dire. I think Ronnie Barker was the genius. Agree it is sad he is dead.

    Wireless Alarms

Other than swapping a few batteries (I assume there is some notification via the panels?) then why is wired superior? (I ask as we are ripping out a wired alarm that is no longer serviceable!) You guys know me - I want something I can fix myself.

God, I hate trunking. Making sparks chase everything (except in theatre where I have allowed dado trunking for flexibility)

    Wireless Alarms

Looking at alarm options for the new surgery. Thoughts regarding wired or wireless. Currently no alarm so anything is an improvement. Want an alarm with a phone dialler. Two nearby houses would listen out for the alarm. Would like a panic alarm option and 2 keypads (2 doors). This sounds ok...

    Supply to shed

@Horace If you are worried about the shed then just disconnect it for your assessment and swap the SFCU for a blank plate. Re connect after assessment.

    single switch to double

I strongly suspect that a fully qualified electrician is far more likely to get a shock than a DIYer. You become complacent. You isolate individual circuits whereas I believe the majority of DIYers turn off all the power. Of course statistical risk comes into the risk:benefit of doing anything...

    single switch to double

Well done to @steptoe for being so helpful. I have annotated your diagram - bear in mind I am a DIYer. You need to take your supply from the live and neutral loops - I have marked them with a yellow star. The easiest way is likely to be to take that cable to the switch then on to the light.

    LED Lighting for dummies

Guys, Looking at changing some 4 pin compact fluorescent lights in a room that will be a staff room. Floating ceiling to come down and false ceiling going in with solid board insulation, then plasterboard and skim. Thinking a couple of LED 'fluorescent' strip lights. There is a second circuit...

I'd rather my tools went to someone who would use and appreciate them, rather than stick them on ebay or a carboot sale for 25p each

    Anyone used www.smartpricewarehouse.co.uk?

My shower arrived and no one has stolen all my money. They seem a perfectly decent company to deal with. Satisfied customer.

    I HATE electronic handbrakes

Mine (Landrover Discovery 3) has a conventional arrangement under the drum. There is still a spiky nut and a hex headed bolt that adjust the tension applied. On my car it's a case of tighten up to a specific torque and then back off a number of clicks. I take the disc off and clean up and lube...

    I HATE electronic handbrakes

My car has an electronic handbrake. Have you recently adjusted it? Much like with conventional handbrakes the components wear and stretch so they need adjusting occasionally to work properly. If not that is the very first thing to do.

I guess if you fail the live jointing test then you get to trade the blue one for a charred, black steaming one? ;)
