    Drink of choice

I have a lot of whisky. Love the smokey stuff, but can appreciate most of the single malts.

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

I suppose I could try that first! Trying to sort tanks this week.

collect on shed roof into tanks costing £150. Pump to header tank. Use to wash down concrete after use. I was trying to keep it simple

    Screw thread ID help

Guys - my TD5 has a butchered sump plug. Someone has tapped it out much larger than standard and re threaded. They have further bodged it by taking an existing sump type nut - filling off the edges and welding it to a larger nut! The shank diameter fits slightly loosely in the jaws of a 16mm...

Clarke one will turn on and off with use and has no flow protection https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-epc800-electronic-water-pump-control-un/ with https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/051016200/ I just want a system that I can fit and forget (accept will need to empty filters etc).

Thank you I'm not seeing why I need one in the supply tank? They should always be full of water? Could I use what I linked in #28? On and off in the header tank would be my preference.

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

There is ~2m of pipe stuck out the ground at each end (with the ends taped up). I can plumb it up to anything. I haven't even bought the tanks yet - I was going to go with 2 layers of 3 tanks all plumbed together. The only rule is that it can't be stupidly expensive as we are already way over...

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

The 6 IBC containers will be outside and store the water. There will be a small header tank on the lab roof that will hold the immediate supply for a pressure washer - ~200 litres - whatever I can spec for little money. The header tank will hold more water than I am ever likely to use in a...

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

There's a magic height where water gets very hard to pump - I had a feeling it was something like 10m - something to do with the intrinsic weight of the column of water. Anyways

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

If you see the diagram - I would plan to put the pump inside the shed where the pipe enters the building. I can raise the feeder tanks so they are slightly above the pump. I expect the water level to be considerably above the pump. This way it can live indoors and be easily accessible. I...

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

The water will be used for washing down the shed floor after treating animals. Sometimes it can be bloody etc. Adding a jug of hypochloride every now and again is very doable. It's would also be possible to fill the header tank (the first time) with a hose so the transfer pipe would remain full...

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

Currently the lab is built (as of today) and there is the pipe buried in the slab. Everything at this point is flexible - except the 20mm poly pipe is very much fixed.

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

Once we get onto the 20mm there will be 2 elbows. The IBC containers will either have an elbow each or a T piece fitting. Stacked in 2 layers. Maybe 3 elbows max

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

On the morning the concrete was coming I remembered I had forgotten to put a pipe in for this task - all I had was a roll of 20mm blue MDPE polypipe, so that is what I used.

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

The IBC tanks will be outside and connected together with 25mm pipe. A 20mm pipe is buried under the concrete. The tank will be inside a shed on the roof of a lab - in an enclosed agricultural type shed - that is not bought as yet. so can be anything, but not massive or I'll have to put a lot...

    Rainwater Harvesting - pumps etc

Plan is to collect rainwater in 6 X 1000l IBC containers, connected together (outside). A pipe then runs ~12m underground and then needs to rise 3m to fill a header tank. The header tank is to feed a pressure washer - that can run off a ground level water-butt.  What is the best way of moving...
