Extractor fan install is noifiable, plus more!!

Well as I see it.. Any more expensive time wasting courses are simply not worth the hassle for a sole trader doing occasional extractor fans... So for any new builds / major extension works involving building control, I would probably just pass the buck onto the builder to get any...

    Outside socket

As UNG points out the far right hand RCD switch in you consumer unit is no longer suitable. A type A equivalent 30ma RCD can be bought for less than £25 from Screwfix.. https://www.screwfix.com/p/contactum-defender-63a-30ma-dp-type-a-rcd/363ha

    Outside socket

    (a) Do I read this that you are considering connecting a 2.5mm armoured cable directly onto a 13A plug? (b) Why are you thinking of 2.5mm CSA for a load of max 13A over such a short run? (c) Plugs, are designed for connecting flexible conductors not solid conductors. (d) Standard 13A 3pin...

Adding RCD to washing machine socket

If you are finding this "inconvenient" it could be argued that your installation does not comply with BS7671..? As reg 314.1 goes back to the Red 17th ed book.. (or 314-01-01 prior to that) which does require that the division of an installation should "Minimise Inconvenience" in the event...

Adding RCD to washing machine socket

You are thinking of the 17th ed Red book 411.3.3 where after stating 30ma RCDs are required for socket outlets it did have a note (b) about "Specifically labelled or otherwise identified socket outlet for a specific item of equipment"... But this note was removed in the 18th ed Blue book...

    Mft calibration prices

I honestly don't know if CEF use the same company to do all of their calibration days around the country, (probably not at a guess?).. But for example this company ACS https://www.acs-calibration.co.uk/ state on their website.. Calibration Days ACS offers a unique calibration opportunity...

Medical clinic CT scanner with batteries + solar…?

Welcome to the forum Shaun.... I cannot give you any useful answers.. But it is an interesting question.... My gut feeling is your paragraph "Our CT suppliers think not, and have suggested maybe hardwiring the CT scanner directly to the 3-phase 75kVA supply, with its own UPS (ie bypassing...

    Electrical Supply and who’s responsible?

Welcome to the forum... I always understood it was the person/company that owned the actual building that were responsible for managing/maintaining the services from where they enter at street-level to where they then supply the individual flats. e.g. DNO responsible from street into some sort...

    Scout hut

I would tend to use the descriptions from table 3.2 of Guidance Note 3 for identifying the type of installation. Which would not be domestic for a scout hut... As IMHO Domestic accommodation and/or rented houses and flats, ALL general refer to properties where people would be living, eating...

    DNO Cut-Out location - regulations / guidance?

Reminds me of stuff like this from an old job.... Unfortunately its not uncommon to find Cut-Outs and CU inside the back of kitchen cabinets!! or boxed in, in a strange fashion! As UNG pointed out judging by the loop of cable, it does look like the whole of that back board, inc meter &...

Adding another circuit to and old cu

An EICR stating that an installation is unsatisfactory means there are one or more areas that are considered to be immediately or potentially dangerous.. None-compliance with current regulations does not automatically mean something is dangerous, it could just require improvement.. As has...

Section 5 of the Napit scheme rules would suggest it should be annually? https://www.napit.org.uk/downloads/(NAP-REQ%20010)-NAPIT-Installer-Scheme-Rules(04.24).pdf. e.g. point 5.5: Surveillance timings shall be as described in the relevant Scheme Documents (Annex A). Adding another circuit to and old cu

I can't quite figure out from your post if remedial work has been carried out to make the installation satisfactory for continued use following the EICR? (if not, why not?) If it is still not satisfactory then I would not recommend adding any new circuits or extending any existing...

    18th edition exam

Have you done many C&G exams before? In my opinion the order that the questions appear is a minor problem as long as you can get your head around the typical double negatives used in the wording of C&G questions! If you have done earlier edition exams, then I doubt that the 18th would present...

    Cut cable under the flooring

Also its worth knowing that with a complaint against any tradesperson, the person / company who failed to do the work to a reasonable standard, must be given a chance to put right thier error free of charge first.. e.g. You can't just employ someone else to do some remedial work then try and...
