    Scottish Electrician Advice

What experience do you have on working in houses, a lot of time it is not just about the quals you have but knowing about the construction of houses, for example how to lift floor boards with minimum damage, how to put holes into ceilings to fish cables and make good afterwards. How long does...

    Soft starter

Have any plant conditions changed between them working and not working? I was going to say does the motor run up ok with the belts disconnected but I reread your post and you said the stand by motor and blower does the same. Hence I am heading down the plant conditions. Pipe blockage, damper...

    Soft starter

Is the motor “wind milling” while sitting off so the starter has to overcome the windmill effect (if opposite to motor driven direction)

    Flickering downlights

Your light fitting supply cables running beside other cables which could be for example 2 way switch pass cables (strappers), cooker supply or socket cables. It does not take much in the way of induced voltage to cause an led lamp to flicker, it is sorted by adding a snubber into the led circuit.

    Extend an Oven Cord

If you get in touch with the oven Manufacturer, a lot of them supply purpose made longer leads, I know Neff & Bosch do as their cables are a plug and socket, from memory the standard one is 1.5m long and the replacement is 2 or 2.5m long.

    VSD Cable question

Is he worried about RF interference? Personally speaking I have had no issues with VSD interference on SWA, I would go with your suggestion of SWA into isolators then SY cable not that I think it will make a blind bit of difference. Of course you could just tell him that you are not using SY...

1.5 MM Blade Crimps too long

If I’m understanding you correct, this is a red flat blade crimp, if so I see no probs in cutting a mm of the flat blade length, done it many times, important thing is that you are using ratchet crimpers and not a cheap set of so called crimping pliers that you get for £1.99.

    Re routing cable

It might be a straight rose to rose cable, it might be going to a junction box or switch, you also might be able to fit one end of the new cable to the old bit go to the other side and pull the new bit straight in without disturbing boards or insulation, there is a lot of if and buts which you...

    What cable is this?

I was going to say the stripped inside of a 3 core SWA cable pre 2004 until you said it was flat mmmmmmm

    Ferrule Current Rating

Might be a better question to send to RS tech dept, I suspect a typo. When you consider that the copper from your cable goes inside the “tube” so it will still be the cable carrying the current, I don’t see anything to worry about, although I have been known to be wrong once or twice in the past.

    Off the grid.

Because of the Navitron forum I ended up putting together a wind turbine controller for a couple in Australia, 6 months later they came over and picked it up, they were great company and ended up staying with us for about 4 days.

I may have gone over board

Far to neat for coms stuff rip it out and start again 😀

    Advice needed if possible.

Very few places are suitable for wind turbines, they require lots of clean air, by clean I mean no buildings or trees etc round about and by lots I mean lots.

    Off the grid.

Good luck with your project and keep us updated on it please. 2 or 3 of us on here were also on the Navitron forum, pity it folded.
