    Landscape lighting advice/solution

My guess would be they were "installed" as the wall was built. I suspect that is going to be the case for boyd761 :( Again only a guess, but my money would go with "They drilled a small hole all the way through, then a larger hole for the fitting, poked the cable through and pulled it tight"...

    Landscape lighting advice/solution

Just thought I would mention one of the "hates" about checkatrade is they do not publish bad reviews, it is not in their interests to allow a bad review, as said before, checkatrade is paid for by anyone who wants to advertise. It says on their website that bad reviews are accepted but the...

Building a switch panel for a laser enclosure

I thought I should point out that the plugs and sockets in the picture are Australian and the OP's profile does say he is located in Australia, furthermore to do what he needs to do it would be classified as "electrical work" which is illegal in Australia unless you are licensed, which I assume...

    Photocell sensor

Normally I would agree, but the ones have I suggest have "nothing" to go wrong, I have 2 of them here, been in use 15+ years, bit grubby looking now, but work fine.

    VDE Tools

Hi all. Just a reminder, this is a forum, everyone has an opinion, don't make it personal. :) (I don't want to lock this thread)

    VDE Tools

I would say that common sense is often forgotten. A person is going to change a failed ceiling lamp, they can't reach it, what do they do? grab the nearest thing and stand on it, be that a chair, table or what. Or if a (small) ladder/steps is used and the lamp is touch too far, the person will...

    No, that's terrible news.

    Garden water features tripping rdc

Just saying. All the mains pond/fountain pumps I have come across for outdoor use have a 10m 3 core cable, so are not double insulated. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Itodd2, Picture of this box...

Kitchen heater leaking. Water touches the extension cord. Will I run into issues?

No point in getting anything tested, get the water heater leak fixed. galius, Pardon me asking  , where are you in the world, as you have said "cord" 5 times. In the UK we don't generally call it a cord.:)

    Garden water features tripping rdc

As I said previously RCD's don't often trip of their own accord, and you have proven that yours is working as it should, therefore your easiest option is a process of elimination. (The best option would be to get all pumps and cables tested to find out what the insulation resistance is) I...

    Garden water features tripping rdc

With nothing connected, but switched on does the RCD trip? Are there any other junction boxes/joints anywhere? (Of any description) As a rule of thumb RCD's should never trip on their own, so something must have happened, the question is what? So have you or anyone else carried out any...

Kitchen heater leaking. Water touches the extension cord. Will I run into issues?

An upturned non metallic bowl (As you are in a kitchen) will work just as well :)

    OutOnSite.

I wouldn't say daft, I would say it's more a case of "uneducated" in the fact they think it should be free "because it should" but most folk do not see/understand that even the smallest things have to be paid for in some way. It still tickles me when you get ads that say...

    OutOnSite.

Active members on a forum, no idea. It's the same with any forum, people come people go, some join and never post, some join, never post but read to find what they want to know. Not all forums "publish" the total posts etc

    OutOnSite.

I have to point out that not all forums/websites are hosted by the person/group that own them. I have a website, hosted by a 3rd party and the website/domain name is cheap. BUT they charge for data used, and if you have a forum it can and does use a lot of data, so in general a website doesn't...

    Clicking noise within ceiling void

If you have turned the power off to your entire flat, and it still operates, as you say, it is nothing to do with you/your flat. Sadly it is not possible to say what does trigger it, even if you found out what triggers it (e.g. Sensor outside for car park lights) there is nothing you can do...

    Clicking noise within ceiling void

I seem to have a sound card problem  I rebooted, yes I heard it😊 Yes, sounds like a contactor. It also sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to, so as ProDave said, no fault. Not sure about why though. FYI: A contactor is used to switch a large load. Or uses a small switch to...

    Clicking noise within ceiling void

I for one, could not hear anything. :cautious: But suppose it is a relay (Or not) what would you like us to do about it? o_O Sorry it does not solve your problem, you will have to keep complaining. Put it in writing to the management company.
