    Batteries and FIT payment meter

As John said, add a separate AC coupled Inverter and batteries. The old PV inverter will still feed the FITS meter. The installers may be saying it can't be done with only the existing inverter - true. Or that the rewiring to island some of your house will be too difficult.

    who's seen this!!

Yes, saw that video yesterday. As a DIYer I welcome it. In the USA it seems they intentionally have long lengths of "earth" left bare in CU's and breaker boxes.

    D.I.Y solar project

220-240V x 9.5A = about 2.4kW. So a minimum of 2400/400 = 6 off 400W solar Panels, more to allow for efficiency not 100% That's to run the pump at full power. But the pump might be capable of continuously pumping a trickle into the tank at a lower max current, so less panels needed. And that...

Generator linked to pv battery array

Running a 5kW generator for 1 hour would supply 5kWh. In 5 hours it would supply 25kWh. "My battery pack is 775ah 48 2v forklift batteries " Is that a pack of 2V cells that make 775Ah at 48V ? So 37.2kW ? Then about 6 to 7 hours to charge from 10 to a 100 percent.

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

If you were thinking of adding Fogstars to your existing batteries, as I was to my Python 3000C : "The Fogstar ESR51.2V 5.12KWH systems are not compatible with other types or models of rack battery on the market, this may be due to discrepancies in power/size of the unit, BMS or overall system...

OSO hotwater boiler_Issue heating the water

"How can the timer rotate even if it is in the permanent position?" Because most run all the time. So that should you want to switch back from "Permanent" to "Timed", you don't have to reset the clock to the correct time. You have only been altering a switch that is "down stream" of the clock...

OSO hotwater boiler_Issue heating the water

IMO the timer should still rotate despite being switched to the Permanent position ? Perhaps this is fed from the Night Immersion switch, which appears to be unpowered ? Can you locate a breaker in the main CU that feeds the water heating system ? Is it in the OFF position ? Despite the timer...

    Inverters

Voltacon supplied my Pylontech US3000C battery and seem to be reputable. The Conversol inverter is about half the price of Victron units. But operation seems to be entirely driven by the inverter modes, with no CT connection. And no mention of an app to monitor it with a tablet etc. "Victron...

    What are the premium brands?

Are you looking for "Premium", or for "Reliable" ? "Expensive" and "Luxury" car brands, which might be considered to be "Premium", are often less reliable than cheaper brands. And for an Inverter, reliability is what I would want. Search for "Car reliability chart". And "Best Inverter...

OSO hotwater boiler_Issue heating the water

I'm not sure if you've ascertained which of the heating elements the timer connects to, and to which the "Water" switch connects. The top element, on it's own, will heat much less water than the lower one, on its own. At the moment it appears that only the top element is switched on. Or...

Options to protect cables entering consumer unit

On some videos I've seen 10mm x 6mm grommet strip used in preference to the much smaller strip that often comes with a CU. On large rectangular knockouts, probably too bulky for small circular openings. A bit like the capping you find on the welded edges of a car door opening. Really secure...

2nd Opinion Smart Relay Wiring (Salus SR600)

Option one. Live from the plug (or outlet) goes to L to power the Solus. And Live is looped to COM, which is one terminal of the internal Solus switch (NO means "Normally Open). Solus closes the internal switch on command, and Live comes out of NO and goes to the heater. Neutral from the plug...

    Upgrade via ES3000

"can I upgrade the inverter ME3000SP using a ES3000 micro sd car." You can update the firmware with a microSD card. But it will only be tweaks to the way it operates. You'll still only be able to draw : Max. input/output AC current: 13A And DC charge at : Max. charging current: 65A

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

"if I draw more than 3kw on a cloudy day or evening I'm going to spike & take from the grid and will it annoy me so much I will wish I had gone for a 5kw inverter?" Kettle + Toaster Oven + Hob Dishwasher + Washing Machine Immersion heater + household load Hot Tub, swimming pool heater, sauna ? :)

Advice needed scoping work for electrician

I would install the inverter and batteries in the Study, adjacent to the CU. Some of the inverter and battery units have sleek cases and are not that intrusive. Or you could install behind a partition wall with several access doors, fan ventilated if necessary. Or even IP rated units outside...

Cable size between inverter and consumer unit

The 2.5mm/4mm/6mm cable from the inverter to the CU allows the inverter to send current from the PV panels into the CU, to reduce the current being taken from the "outside connection". That's all you need, no need for a cable from the CU to the "outside connection". The breaker in position 3...

    Tesla Gateway switch

The 3kW EPS output of my SoFar Inverter can be set to feed continuously. So 3kW of essential items are wired to the EPS, and remain on when power fails. No need for a fancy switch.
