    Exporting PME

It's a whole can of worms this, and getting sparks to agree on whether or not an outbuiding, hot tub or anything else being powered externally to the main supplied building should use the suppliers PME or be TT'd is akin to trying to solve the middle east troubles.  There are pros and cons to...

Was this the right decision for an EICR ?

In a flat, it's highly unlikely anything is going to be running power to outside unless ground floor. Really tenants shouldn't be drilling/hammering anything at all into the wall, the reality of this is different of course. If all circuits test out ok for IR and you've inspected all connections...

    IR testing

GN3 chapter 2, bottom of page 50 continuing onto page 51, "Where the removal of lamps and/or the disconnection of current using equipment is impracticable, the local switches controlling such lamps and/or equipment should be open. An insulation resistance test of L&N connected together to E...

    Power to separate garage

As above, by the time you've factored in hassle, the installation of and the size of the cable you'd need for a car charger of any decent power 40m away (the actual cable will be longer than the line of sight distance) it may well be cheaper and definitely easier to get a new supply put in. ...

    My fuse box?

There'll more than likely be asbestos flashbacks in there too so be careful if you start having a rummage inside them.

When do the 28 days start?

I'd say 28 days from the date of the report but then there must be some provision for the landlord to receive it on that date, he could receive it 28 days after the report, landlord can only be liable once notified surely. Every time I think it can't get any worse, there is something else added...

    Compare van insurance

Mines about £300, 2006 berlingo van.  Have a look at topcashback, saved me a fortune over the years, it's free, they have deals, get your insurance, energy, phone or whatever and after a few months they'll pay you a lump sum of money into your account, sounds too good to be true but it's legit.

    Butchered

Found these in some old photos, thought some of you on here might appreciate. Must be bout 10 years ago. This was a new consumer unit that had been done by an NIC approved domestic installer. We were called by the customer to check it out as the customer was a bit suspect on the guys work. We...

    Revision Question

Cheers fellas. I did the test today and passed, officially have my 2391 now although the certificate won't turn up for a while yet. I'm ready for a   Guinness tonight.

    Revision Question

Thought I'd ask on here.  It's difficult (for me at least) to determine what they're actually asking.  If they're asking max volt drop for a distribution circuit it would be 5%, 11.5V so answer a) 11.5V But are they asking what the acceptable volt drop would be if you included the 5V they...

More comments from the Connections Magazine

Is there any indication of the hoops that are going to be required to be jumped through?

    Even more from Connections Mag.

I've never known an industry with as many "governing bodies", regulations, updates and amendments to regulations, different qualifications, different methods of getting said qualifications but all the while literally anybody can work on an electrical installation.

    NICEIC Connections Magazine

I know of two places they mention that in the BBB you've just mentioned the third for anyone that needed anymore confirmation.  There aren't enough sparks in the country to fix up all these "deadly dangerous" houses that don't comply with the 18th.

    Testing final ring

That max Zs is the uncorrected value from the big book, better to use the 80% value in GN3 or the OSG, which would be 1.1 ohms (at 10C ambient temp) correct it to the likely testing temp at the moment of 20C and it should be max 1.14 ohms.

    Testing final ring

Did you take the R1+R2 at the socket fronts (plug in tester) or at the terminals with the probes and did you use the same method when taking the Zs? Worn out sockets and switches can give high readings but if you're using the same method for both dead and live tests this would be irrelevant...

    Antibody test..

I'd have the test, quite curious to know if I've had it unnoticed. Antibody testing is a very valuable tool and the only reliable way of knowing just how infectious it really is and how bad the mortality rate is.

More rolling stock has been added to the Gravy Train .

That's cheap compared to the big boys. If I'm right I think Stroma is owned by one of them.

    Solitaire Horsebox electrics

Sounds like an electric hook up and/or an inverter system to provide 230v to the living quarters. When you say 15a domestic plug do you mean an actual 15a plug (this is unlikely),  a 16a plug, round and blue, ceeform (most likely) A 13a 3 pin plug top, like you have to plug the TV in? The...

More rolling stock has been added to the Gravy Train .

I never had one but do remember them and they were well promoted when I was learning, had a look at them recently, but like you say they seem worthless, certainly in the domestic market, you're lucky if a homeowner has heard of the NIC, let alone NAPIT and all the others and then down at the...

More rolling stock has been added to the Gravy Train .

It does baffle me why they have to make everything so vague, confusing and difficult. All it needs is one governing body that you must be registered with to do any electrical work more than changing a wiring accessory. Keep the fees to register at one annual amount no matter what area you cover...
